Cornelia walked into the tavern, head held high and boots loudly clicking on the floor as she made her way up to the bar. It really wasn't her habit to drink, but since her arrival yesterday, she found herself unable to fill her time. She was so used to strategical battles and running an empire that the idle hours were beginning to drive her crazy.
There was a firm expression on her face, resembling a scowl and she seemed to be lost in thought as she put her hand on top of the bar and uttered, "Scotch on the rocks. Single malt."
He was charming in a rugged sort of way, but she opted not to give him a smile. Charming or not, his blood did not have the prestige of Britannia running through it. Sniffing it first, her brow raising at the aroma. "Not bad." She sipped it, obviously knowing how to enjoy good whiskey, but let the glass clank back down on the bar, a slow sigh emptying into the air.
"And so... this is what one does in Somarium after a few months? They aspire to be a bartender?"
Raven on the other hand could tell that she was pure noble. She even had a militaristic air about her, which told him she was definitely something he should at least be a little careful around. ...She still had a damn, fine body, though.
At her comment, he couldn't help but chuckle. "Not exactly. Though I will say some of the other citizens have started up their own businesses. I figured some of the more mature adults would appreciate some place to just relax and have a drink."
He then gave her a more charming grin. "Also helps with getting to know with some people."
Cornelia grinned in spite of herself. "Getting to know people, huh? I bet."
She found herself with the glass in her hand again and it wasn't long before she was placing it back down on the bar and flickering her eyes at him as a signal for more.
"What other avenues of entertainment can be found here?"
Raven caught the signal and preparing her a fresh new glass. "Hm...well can't say there is exactly much in terms of entertainment. Usually people busy themselves with just hanging around with other people. Some explore and try to figure out what's going on in this world."
He placed the new glass in front of her. "Make our own entertainment I suppose you could say, though things sometimes happen without us tryin'."
"You've come at a rather normal time, miss," raven said with a sigh. "In the past there have been strange occurrances that have happened. One of them having us living through one of the Overlord's nightmare. There was also something for this Christmas holiday. And even then, there are these cards that can change people. I just came back from reliving my childhood."
Cornelia bulked, nearly choking on the liquid as she continued to sip it, but she managed to visibly contain her surprise. "Excuse me? But did you say childhood? A card did that to you?"
The glass hit the bar top once more and in an elegant flick of her wrist, it slid back to the other side to be filled again.
"This place doesn't make any sense. At first I thought it was a world for the dead, but it seems that people are brought here at random points in their lives." She rubbed her eyes, the alcohol possibly beginning to have an effect on her.
"They can do more than that," Raven started to say as he caught the glass. He was going to continue when he heard her words and looked over at her. "Sure you want another?"

She fixed him with an icy glare. "Do you dare to ask whether I can hold liquor?" She wasn't slurring. Her pigment had darkened, sure, but Cornelia had convinced herself that the heat crawling up her neck was because the idiot serving alcohol was questioning her tolerance.
She knew he was just showing concern. But, it wasn't like she was his responsibility. She would walk right out of there when she was done and he wouldn't have to remember that she had ever entered in the first place.
Really... why do men always assume that women are the weaker sex?
Her expression mellowed a bit, and she rested her chin into the palm of her hand, leaning against the bar with her elbow.

Raven knew that look all too well and immediately went to give her a refill.
"Yeah, the cards are kind of...strange," he said as he gave her the drink and leaned against the counter, watching her carefully. "So far, the ones I've seen are ones that make ya switch bodies with another person, age your body up or down by about ten years, change yer gender, and then the one where it turns ya into a kid. Thing about the cards, though," he added, "is that ya don't even realize you use 'em. The minute ya touch it, you'll instantly swipe it into the Dreamberry without a second thought. It's like it possesses you."
She accepted the drink with a small nod this time, holding it between both hands as she considered the man's words. "Possession?" Her eyes lowered in thought, the inquisitive fold in her forehead appearing again. "So, this place... it's magic?"
She delivered the snort before she even realized it. What a silly notion.
"But, how is that possible?" She leaned into her hand again, raising the glass to her mouth as her brain tried to comprehend such impossible ideals. "Magic isn't real."
At this Raven chuckled. "I'm afraid that magic is very real, miss," he said. "This pace definitely has some magic to it, and my own world dealt with it as well. Hell, even I know a few magic artes."
There was a firm expression on her face, resembling a scowl and she seemed to be lost in thought as she put her hand on top of the bar and uttered, "Scotch on the rocks. Single malt."

DAMN. He hadn't seen a woman like her in a while, especially since being here.
As he stood up, he said, "Must have had a rough time." Raven came around the bar and started to prepare her drink. "Just arrived, right?"

She pulled the long, silk gloves from her fingers and folded them prissily before hiding them somewhere in her cloak.
