Kio had been sitting in the field sketching throughout the afternoon. He had been spending a lot of time wandering through the city lately. Watching Isabelle set up the blanket, Kio stood up brushing some of the leaves off his clothes and grabbing the sketch book.

Walking over he smiled, "Hello."

She glanced up at the unfamiliar face, not letting that bother her. Smiling back brightly, Izzy flicked a loose lock of black hair over her shoulder. "Hey. You here for the picnic?" Black eyes dropped to the sketchbook in his hands, "Or are you just hanging around?"

"Picnic? I didn't know that anyone was having one honestly." Kio scratched the back of his head, shifting his weight a little, "And yeah I just happened to be around doing a few sketches of the trees and stuff for a painting later. I guess things have been so hectic lately that I haven't really been able to catch up on everything since the last group of parties and fireworks."

She laughed, shifting her weight where she sat back to one hand. "That was a pretty long time ago, I think. You're missing out. You're also more than welcome to join us, if you want."

Isabelle gestured to his sketchbook now, "Maybe you can just draw people, since you didn't bring anything to eat."

"I've been busy trying set up a studio in the extra room of my apartment and trying to find work. I guess I forgot to check out other things going on, but getting the chance to meet other people and sketch doesn't sound bad at all." Pulling out a pair of Chupa chups from his pocket he unwrapped one of the suckers for himself and held the other out for Isabelle, "I'm Kaidou Kio."

"Thanks." Accepting the sucker, she unwrapped it before popping it into her mouth, pleasantly surprised by the gesture. "Isabelle Lightwood. Nice to meet you."

Speaking around the thing proved to be somewhat difficult, but that never stopped Izzy before. "So you paint, I'm guessing? Not many jobs in terms of that here, I think. Not unless you feel like teaching kids at the school."

"I was studying Japanese Art before coming here, but I used to model too." Kio laughed for a moment before taking a seat. It felt a little awkward standing up and talking to someone that was sitting down, "But I've been looking at a few different things."

"So what is the picnic for?"

"As long as you've got options, right? I still haven't found anything that works well for me. Not that I've been looking that hard," she laughed as well, shrugging playfully as she shot him a charming grin.

"Just for fun. There was a ton of leaves, and this guy was thinking of setting them on fire, I guess. This struck me as a way better idea."

"It is, burning all the leave would cause more of a mess anyways and the smoke would be annoying. Besides a picnic is something that more people would be able to enjoy together."

"So are you expecting a lot of people to show up?"

"I'm hoping for a few, yeah," she replied, shifting the sucker in her mouth with her tongue thoughtfully. "I agree, though. This is way better, as far as things go. And I've already met someone new!"

Isabelle shot him a charming grin, chuckling to herself.

Kio leaned forward with a grin of his own, "That's the best part is getting to meet and know new people. It seems like there are a lot of really interesting people here. You seem nice as well, have you been here very long?"

"Yeah, long enough. Better part of...nine months, I guess?" Izzy hadn't actually realised it had been that long - it felt like just a brief snap, rather than months and months. She was reaching her first winter, but how many had Alec seen there? Two Halloweens, so he'd been there way longer than she had. But she knew that.

How many would Max see there? Her face fell slightly at the thought, but she quickly shook it off, shrugging. "It's not too hard to meet people if you just wander around. How long have you been here?"

Sitting back a little, apparently that had been the wrong question to ask but he figured that a lot of people probably got homesick after staying here a while. Kio's biggest concern though were how he was going to make up all the work he was missing, as well as what Soubi was getting himself into while Kio wasn't around. "I guess it's been about a month, though it doesn't seem like it with moving into the apartment and everything else."

"Yeah, I can see that. When I got here, my older brother was here already - I didn't have to worry about finding a place, thank the Angel." Luckily, she didn't have much work to catch up on at all. Things back in New York were pretty chill, though not as much since Clary arrived on the scene. She supposed things weren't too bad here - at least Clary wasn't around to trip everything up.

"Time flies when you're having fun, right?"

"Or when you have a deadline coming up." Kio laughed at how often he and several other would have to scramble to finish up their final projects, and how he usually wound up staying up all night to help Soubi since the other was never done on time. "But that's what makes things interesting. And passing it with other people makes it special."

"Just as true. Deadlines can be killer," she joined him in laughter, despite not knowing the context of his. It didn't strike her as that important; after his comment about other people, the fact that they were laughing together seemed only to prove the point. Isabelle did love spending time with people. It was one of the primary reasons why she was such a flirt - she flourished amongst others, whether the attention was on her or not.

"You've got a point there," she agreed. "You've been meeting people, I guess? Making tons of friends?"
