At the end of the day, Raiden had found not a single trace of Solid Snake. With nothing more to do and nowhere else to go - he'd been alone for most of the day, anyway, ruminating over this disturbing problem - he took Gray up on his invitation to join him and Big Boss at Outer Heaven.

However, he didn't feel right knocking on the door of a military base, but nor did he feel all right with simply entering without warning. Instead, he chose to take a seat beside the base's front doorstep, back to the wall, head bowed. He was sure Gray would be out on patrol soon enough. In the meantime, he'd shut his eyes and think. There had to be something he missed...

Sure enough, Frank exited the main entrance of Outer Heaven just a short time later. Eyes straight ahead, he stopped on the doorstep; sensing Raiden before even seeing him. He slowly turned his head, looking to the seated cyborg.

"...Raiden. You've arrived."

Frank glanced around, trying to keep an eye out for Snake.

Raiden twitched slightly. Although he heard Frank coming, he was shamed to admit that he was actually drifting off into a very light nap. Despite his night on the couch, he hasn't been getting much sleep. He mentally shook himself out of his daze.

"... Hello, Gray," Raiden nodded. He gathered his things and rose to his feet, glancing past the boy and into the threshold of Outer Heaven.

"It smells like you made good use of the cookbooks you found."

"I helped make stew," the young soldier replied, nodding to Raiden as he followed the cyborg back inside. Patrol could wait for now. He moved back towards the stairs that lead to the upper level, motioning for the man to follow.

"My commander is in the sitting room."

Raiden followed Gray, sliding his hands down to unbuckle his utility belt full of sheaths and holsters. He held his gear in his arms as a show of peace; so long as they were removed and set aside, Big Boss would recognize that he wasn't staging an ambush with the lost 'Pliskin.' He needed Big Boss to know that Raiden trusted him far enough to enter unarmed.

"Thank you," Raiden murmured. "I'll call ahead next time."

"Hey. Hey, Frank," growled Tetsu as he eyed Raiden distrustfully from the shadows. "What the hell is that thing?"

"That's Raiden, Tetsu," he explained, following behind Raiden. "He's one of our comrades; treat him well."

"If you say so," Tetsu sniffed. "He's the weirdest-lookin' human I've ever seen."

Glancing up from the couch, Big Boss raised an eyebrow at Raiden's presence. He really hadn't expected to see the man here so soon.

"Raiden, it's nice to see you again."

Raiden nodded an acknowledgment to Big Boss, offering a polite, respectful bow in his presence. He set his equipment and weaponry aside, against the wall, where he could still keep an eye on it, but where it was clear to his hosts that he wasn't trying to start a fight.

"I didn't come for a social hour, Big Boss," Raiden murmured. He looked exhausted, but Big Boss may not even notice the difference between an exhausted Raiden and his normal everyday deathly appearance. "I have a question... and a request, that I trust you will keep in confidence."

Frank was standing close behind Raiden with Tetsu in tow. His eyes moved to Big Boss, looking to his commander for an order on whether he should stay or go.

Straightening up from his relaxed position on the couch, Big Boss rearranged his expression carefully, hiding all concern he felt.

"Of course. Take a seat and we can talk. Frank," His gaze fell on his son. "You sit too."

Frank nodded and stepped past Raiden, moving to stand at attention beside the couch.

Raiden paced before finally (and awkwardly) settling on the same seat he chose for the Outer Heaven truce event the other day. He didn't intend on wasting their time for long; he may as well come right out with it. He gave a low, melancholic sigh.

"... Pliskin is gone."

Big Boss and Frank were the first two people he admitted this to, and he looked drained. With those three brief words, out poured the guilt and the self-hate he'd contained all day. He had failed to protect Snake.

But as quickly as that wave came, it was bottled up once more.

"When was the last time you caught sight of him?

"Pliskin?" He could barely believe that a man like Pliskin would just up and leave someone so dependent on him.

"I haven't seen him since the little get together we had here. When did he disappear?"

"Last night," admitted Raiden despondently. His hand clenched into a fist at his side. "He didn't leave a trace. There was nothing to track, and I've already searched the city and the village..."

Raiden hm'd.

"If he managed to find an exit, I'd be glad he left."

But from Raiden's tone, it was obvious that Raiden didn't exactly believe that Snake found the exit and left of his own volition.
