Alfred hated winter. Chilly weather just didn't suit well with him. Unless you were talking about Christmas, winter sucked majorly.
Shivering slightly with a bag of hot chocolate mix (what could be better in a cold weather?) dangling from his arm and hands tucked safely in his pockets, he made his way across the village until America noticed a familiar figure.
Odd, she looked down.
He strolled over to her, not at all trying to cover the sound of his steps.
Rena looked up at the sound of footsteps. Seeing America she felt a mixture of both happiness and more sadness. Happiness because he was still here but sadness because seeing him reminded her more of Spain's absence.
For him, she tried her best to cover up her inner pain. "Ah, America. How are you?"
He would have said something funny to cheer her up, but somehow her eyes just look so lost. Even America lost his taste for jokes in face of such melancholic face. He sat down next to her despite protests from his buttocks and said with a puzzled smile.
"I'm good, I'm good." A pause. "But you don't look so good. Did something happen?"
"Well..." She bows her head down. There wasn't much of a way to dodge this question, especially with America who was a friend of Spain's. She bites her lip, refusing to cry again. It was so hard, but she didn't want to keep him in the dark.
Immediately he took out his Dreamberry and searched through the contact. Nothing. Spain's name really was gone. Crap. He bit his lower lip - ... but he didn't exactly have time to be upset. There was a girl who was crushed by Spain's leave right next to him.
"Rena..."
He momentarily froze, trying to figure out what to say to Rena, but in the end, America was not good at that kind of mushy stuff. So instead he swung an arm around the girl and gave her a hug, the kind a teammate would give to each other.
Rena paused for a moment before leaning in closer to his hug. She needed this, she really did. She needed to feel that America was still here, even if the others were gone now. But...she was still scared that soon he too would leave her. No matter how hard she tried, tears still managed to escape her eyes and trickle down her face. Rena burrowed her head into America's chest, now wanting him to see her face.
America just lets her cry on his chest. Sometimes, tears were the best medicine for a heartache. All he can do at this point was to reassure her that she wasn't alone. Patience wasn't his best attribute, but he could always learn to wait especially for times like this.
