Lara walked into the room in time to see Nero kneel down by a teh body of a young woman. She hadn't seen her before, nor has the young man ever mentioned her before, but by the way he was gently holding her in his arms, she could assume she meant a great deal to the demon hunter. She slowly walked up to him, noticing the blood pooling around him. She lowered her gun, her face softening to an expression very few had seen on her:

"Nero..."

Nero could already tell that it was Lara who had entered the room before she even spoke. He couldn't offer a greeting, or even lift his head to give her a nod of acknowledgment. All he could do was clutch the body closer to his own and fully wrap his arms around it.

"I couldn't save her..." he whispered, a small yet powerful sob following his words despite his best efforts at concealing it. He simply nuzzled his face into her hair as his walls cracked even further, coming one step closer to fully breaking down. Vulnerability was something he would've liked to avoid, but he also would've given his own life to avoid a situation like this. People cry around those that they feel most comfortable around and in front of those that they trust, so why couldn't a demon?

Kneeling by his side, Lara reached up to gently put a hand over his shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.

"I'm sure you did everything you could to save her..." It was hard to comfort the young man without knowing what had truly happened. But she knew Nero enough to assume that he truly did everything in his power to avoid her death. Despite his grumpy exteriors, he had let her see part of the caring man he could be.

"We need to get out of here, Nero. This place...it messes with our minds..."

She had just lived it with Abel and some part of her prayed this was another trick of the strange castle, that the body of the young woman was just another vivid hallucination they were both having.

His only response to feeling a hand on his shoulder was a sudden jerk, but he soon relaxed his shoulders once more, going slack and shaking with renewed vigour ( ... )

There. The young man had just said the words that made the Tomb Raider clicked. From the way he had cradled the young woman, from the way he seemed completely devastated at her death, there was no way Nero hadn't known of her presence in this world.

"I don't think she's truly here, Nero. I think you're having a waking nightmare..."

It wasn't easy to explain something she herself wasn't understanding well. But one thing she knew, the longer they both stay in this place, the most likely they would fall prey to more nightmares.

Lara took a step back as Nero shrugged her hand off, raising an eyebrow at the new color of his eyes.

"No one did this, Nero. This isn't real, somehow." Her voice was calm, serious. She wouldn't plead with the young man, she knew better. She trusted him to be able to fully snap out of it. Hopefully before she had to resolve to less pleasant ways to wake him up from what ever spell he was under.

He would snap out of it, were his mind not numbed with shock. Really, no one could blame him for his devastation, denial and over all burst of random emotion. If it had been their loved one dead in their arms, he wouldn't put hysteria passed even the strongest person. Not to mention, due to a fogged perception of what was currently true and false, he couldn't believe what Lara was telling him even if he sat there and actually used that stubborn brain of his to ponder upon it.

"How could she not be real?" he asked, blinking his rusted eyes rapidly to rid himself of the tears collecting at the corners. She felt real, he was holding the cold, lifeless body of his everything, his Kyrie. He couldn't wrap his mind around it, even trying only served to boost his bloodlust. He wanted something to die because of this, his primal instinct to correct the situation was kicking in ( ... )

At the shift of atmosphere in the room, Lara gritted her teeth and took another step back. She could understand how this wasn't pleasant to hear, but she couldn't let him attack innocent people in order to satisfy his need for revenge over a matter that wasn't real to start with.

If Lara felt anything else than mere curiosity at the sparks and the glowing red eyes, it never showed on her face. What she did, however, was to move between Nero and the door, her hands slipping to her guns.

"I don't know what you are, nor do I really care, Nero, but you definitely need to calm down and actually think this through. I know there's a brain underneath that thick skull of yours. Make it work for once."

Her guns weren't drawn yet, but she would if she had to. Even if the bullets may not kill him, maybe she can buy some time and make him see that this whole thing was just a side effect of this strange place.

Nero didn't move at her words, he remained rigged in his kneeled position, still clutching tightly to her body. He said that he would become a demon to protect her, that he would do absolutely anything for her. But was he willing to become a demon and do anything to someone who may or may not have caused her death? No, he wasn't. He was against the slaughter of innocents too, after all ( ... )

"No, I don't think she is. I don't truly know what's happening, but I can tell you that something similar to this has happened to....a friend, in another room, before I found you." If she was talking about herself, concealing it under the guise of a friend, it didn't show on her face ( ... )

He gave her hand a long, somewhat confused look. After what he had just displayed and what he had just revealed, she was still willing to help? Still willing to actually stick around? It was baffling and yet, at the same time, touching. He took her hand with his left after a brief moment of hesitation and stood on unsteady legs ( ... )

She simply gave Nero a curt nod as he thanked her. It was easy to see how he was avoid eye contact with her, but she let it slide for now. She followed him out of the room, not unhappy to leave the place were her strange...friend had left the body of a woman that had seem to mean to world to him. The further they were away from this room, the better she would feel and the more reassured she'd be about Nero.

Shaking her head, she pointed to the opposite side of the hallway:

"Not really. This room was the second one I've been in since we all arrived here."

She looked back at the young man as screams and groans and screeches could be heard echoing throughout the hallway.

"...And I don't think there is a...right direction in this place..."

"There has to be an exit around here somewhere. Screw directions," he responded to the screams echoing throughout the hallway by stepping in front of his new companion somewhat protectively. He started slowly making his way through the hall, gesturing for her to follow with a flick of his coat. "I'll take point."

As the screams and groans grew in size, he removed Ebony with his left hand and held in cocked and ready to fire. He had already seen the closest person to him die in his nightmares, seeing one he had just recently made die in front of him in reality was something he wasn't about to allow. He had to do something to make up for his previous display, so finding an exit would have to do.

Maybe he'd throw in another dinner when things settled down.

There was a flicker of wind, the smallest breath on their neck and Lara pulled out her own guns and walked behind Nero, her own back almost against his as she covered the angles he couldn't ( ... )

Nero had felt the presence too, but he didn't pay it any mind considering the fact he felt that presence practically everywhere here. This place was just dripping with things to slay, but if they kept their distance and didn't get in his way then hunting them took second priority to escaping ( ... )

It happened too fast for Lara to truly understand what had happened until she saw the dead creature fly away from them, a bullet splitting its skull. She heard the sound of blood being splattered on the floor and looked down at a kneeling Nero, a dark red stain pooling around him. Of course the young man had to play hero and sacrifice himself ( ... )

"I didn't want to... take that chance," he responded through his gasps for breath. He didn't have to be told that it would've been out of sheer luck, he knew that if he couldn't make it there and dodge in time, then she wouldn't have been able to. He would've waved away her attempts at stopping the bleeding where the strength to do so available, instead he simply let her do what she wished with her scarf. "It's just... a scratch anyway ( ... )
