Aerith, having been showering when the boy came in, exited with her robe on and a towel currently hanging over her head. Drying her hair off with one hand, she peeked out to spot the boy sitting on the floor, adorable kitten prancing about the house curiously.
"Alphonse," She sounded ready to scold him, but was obviously teasing when she giggled softly. "Is that our new roommate?"
He freezes at the sound of his name. Oh no, had he misunderstood her? If he could sweat, he would totally be sweating buckets. Alphonse doesn't really want to bring home an unwanted cat, especially since Aerith has been so nice to him.
But when she giggles, he relaxes again. "Yes! It's okay, right?" He asks, just for good measure.
Alphonse shakes his head, still mesmerized by the cat. "No, our childhood friend has a dog. But I've never had a pet before. Edward would never let me."
He stops to rethink his words. That sounded a little mean... he could understand Ed's reasoning, even if he didn't actually like it. "I mean, we moved around a lot. A cat probably wouldn't have liked it."
"Did you?" She looked up, still wiggling the towel until the cat finally got a hold of it, sinking its claws into the fabric and tugging. She giggled again.
"My brother is a state alchemist. He's not really stationed anywhere, so he gets sent to a lot of places." He wrestles with telling Aerith about the philosopher's stone as well. After all, it wasn't really something they'd disclosed to many people, but he'd learned that there were other worlds that also had philosopher's stones, and he was curious as to whether or not Aerith's heard of it.
"And, we were on the trail of the philosopher's stone."
"The Philosopher's stone?" she offered, making it plainly obvious she had not a damn clue what he was talking about. She briefly recalled the mentioning of Al's brother being a state alchemist during their first meeting--whoops, she must have forgotten.
Alphonse nods. "It's supposed to allow alchemists to bypass the equivalent exchange law. Though, that's kind of just a legend. We're not really sure if it's true or not..."
He trails off, remembering what they'd been on the trail of before he'd ended up here. He wonders if Edward had found a way to create the stone yet.
"So what do you need something like that for?" She hummed quietly, watching as the kitten padded around the room again, inspecting things via sniffing.
Aerith reminds Al a lot of Winry. And that makes him even more reluctant to share any information about his past. She's so innocent... he doesn't want to kill that with stories of the trauma that he and Ed have had to witness.
"It's an interesting legend, isn't it? Kind of what every alchemist dreams of having."
She may be 'innocent' but she isn't stupid. The boy hasn't removed that armor since he arrived, he doesn't seem to sleep often--if at all, some nights, he's looking for some stone that breaks the laws of his world. She could easily see that something was off, and yet couldn't quite place everything together right.
"But why would you need to bypass that particular law? Is there something you want to make?"
Unfortunately, Alphonse is still childishly thinking that he can protect others from the truths of the world by not talking about it.
He tries his best to sound cheerful and nonchalant. "Well, it'd be kind of nice to make whatever you wanted, right?" Alphonse is well aware that makes him sound horribly conceited, but he's not sure what else to say on the matter.
"I guess, but you and your brother are traveling all over the world for this stone just for that? You can do a lot of things without it from what I can tell, I just don't know what else you could possibly want to make." she lifts a brow up, curious as to his answer. Maybe if she keeps prying she'll be able to figure out if that's really what all this is about.
He silently busies himself with playing with their new cat, hoping the situation would go away on its own. But it doesn't. Instead, the cat quickly gets bored and walks off to explore more of the room.
"My brother and I... we're trying to find a way to get back into our original bodies."
"Original bodies?" Now she was really interested. She tilted her head, regarding the boy in the armor with a small frown. "What happened to them?" like you didn't expect that question to be asked, Al? "Does that mean you're not in your original body now?" Since that kind of made sense. Kind of?
He gives her an awkward laugh. Should've seen that one coming... "Well, I wasn't born in this suit of armor!" It was meant to be a joke, but somehow came out sadder than he intended.
"Alphonse," She sounded ready to scold him, but was obviously teasing when she giggled softly. "Is that our new roommate?"

"Of course. I said I didn't mind earlier, right? I never really had pets before--Did you take care of cats back home?"

She doesn't have to know the details, right...?
