[It had been some time since Austria had the opportunity to hear one of his famed composers perform live, given that, you know, most of them had passed away and the music in 1914 was rather different than the classical music upon which Austria prided himself. So naturally, even though he may have felt somewhat bad about doing so, when Beethoven asked if he could come over for a meal and asked how he could repay Austria, Austria jumped on that chance and asked if Beethoven would perform for him as a way of repaying him. Not that he really needed to be repaid, you know, since Beethoven was Beethoven, and Austria would do near anything for his composers. No, Austria simply missed his music.
As five o'clock rolled around, Austria made sure to have the meal Beethoven requested prepared perfectly (as well as several Austrian desserts, and potentially coffee for after the meal, as well). Not to mention the ballroom with his piano had been cleaned, dusted, and what have you in order to provide the proper sort of setting for a concert by Ludwig van Beethoven of all people. Yes, Austria was excited. What ever gave you that idea?]
