[Izaya, in all honesty, had little else to do during the day besides wander around and bother talk to people (or try to learn about this world, which was easier said than done past a certain point). So, when he spotted Anri Sonohara walking around aimlessly in the plaza, he was all too excited to approach her and strike up a conversation.]
[And wouldn't this be exciting? Kida-kun had been dreaming about her after all...]
[He approached Anri from behind, and tapped her on the shoulder lightly.] Hi, there.
[Anri spun around quickly- she hadn't expected anybody to approach her first, and her first instinct was to take a step back from whoever had touched her shoulder. Seeing who it was, though... she couldn't help but feel a slight burst of relief.
Familiarity in a strange place was a bit comforting... even if she personally didn't know this man very well.]
Quite alright. [He's a bit surprised she can live in Ikebukuro without knowing his name but it doesn't bother him. That being said, Kida must not have discussed anything regarding him with Anri, which is only beneficial for him.] I haven't seen you around before-- you must be new here.
[The expression on her face goes blank. She isn't sure which is stranger- the fact that, according to Izaya, they are no longer in Ikebukuro, or the fact that he seems perfectly calm about it.]
This is Somarium. This place specifically is Espoir. It's like a dream world, or something of that nature. I'm pretty new here myself actually. For reasons unknown, we were all just thrown into this place and we have no choice but to adapt.
[Izaya pulls his Dreamberry out of his pocket and shows it to her.] Everyone comes here with one of these things, too. You can use it to communicate and it also sometimes wonderfully broadcasts your dreams for everyone to see. [He has been lucky enough to have this happen yet, but his day is coming.]
[Anri blinked- that was certainly a lot to understand at once. There didn't seem to be any other explanation for the sudden and complete change of scenery, though... Anri had no choice but to accept what he'd said, at least for now.
... Besides, he knew about that phone. Anri took out her own Dreamberry, shocked to see that they actually did look alike.]
... Can't you shut it off so that it can't see your dreams?
[Izaya examines the outside of his own Dreamberry for a power button.] I don't think you can turn these off. But you can filter the video so that no one can see it, or so that only the people you want to see it can see it. It doesn't always work though and there is the danger of someone hacking into the filter so that they can view it anyway. [He should know; he's already done this to Kida.]
[Izaya shrugs.] It may be troublesome in some ways, but it's a pretty important device to have in a place like this. For example, it holds an internal universal translator. We both speak Japanese, but not everyone here does, so you couldn't understand them without it.

[There should be something he can say-- before she has a chance to even talk to those two. Something like...] I would warn you of any possible dangers but you're armed all the time, aren't you? [He smirks. Yep. Armed all the time.] Of course, you don't like to do much stabbing and you wouldn't want your friends to hear about you doing such a thing either.
[She's silent for a moment after that- it's difficult to speak with that hollow feeling in your throat. She tucks away her dreamberry and stares at him, incredulous - there's no way he could know that.]
... [She glances around the area, making sure there's nobody who can listen to them; especially not Ryugamine and Kida. Her voice is barely above a whisper.]
[Oh, the advantage of coming from a later canon point. It would just figure Izaya would get this advantage. Izaya shakes his head and holds his arms out, palms open, as if to imply he was clueless. He most certainly wasn't. In fact, he was thinking back to -- and quite clearly, I might add -- Anri's attempt to stab him. The war he had declared on Saika. It wasn't over. Not by a long shot. And lucky for him, it seemed here he would have a fresh start.]
Do the details really matter? I know it's there and I know what it wants.
