The Sink Hole
At dusk, a trembling rumbled through the land.
The start of it was just a small shudder, like a machine jolting to life. But the trembling swiftly grew to a speeding freight train's chugging roar. For those fortunate enough to have evacuated the first and fifth districts, they would see the castle, broken and vacant in the distance, beginning to shift and twist. As if something were moving beneath of it, like a great beast about to shake a bug off its back.
And slowly, with the creak of an old woman's bones, it started to sink into the sands, the desert crumbling away beneath it. A glimmering, liquid black pooled at its base.
Just when the castle was to be enveloped entirely, it bubbled back up with a surge of energy. There was a blinding glow; any individuals unfortunate enough to have been in or near the castle were instantly transported to the Village Espoir. The blackness reaches up toward the sky around out, forming fluid, living walls to the east and west, pulsating about the castle, its top edges stretching and elongating into murky, swampy teeth....
Until it closed around the castle completely.
It took only a few moments longer. The impact is enough to jostle the good people of Somarium, and then as abruptly as the event began, it was still. Only a swirling black hole remained where the fallen castle once rested.
A black lump swelled from the middle of the black hole, twisting, slimming and contorting into a strange shadow, roughly the size of a 20-story building, at the start of the desert. The surface of the hole flashed with a dim glow, and the shape then rested atop a solid, but lightly cracked glass surface.
With a melodic hum, the Somarium generators churned back to life. Power was finally restored to the village and city.
To any traveler that dared to cross the top of the hole and examine that statue, they would find the following inscription etched in white script along its long arms:
To find the answers you seek,
Follow the rabbit down its hole.
Don't forget to use force!
The statue can be heavy.
