Kaname continued to stare into her eyes, as if gauging the truth in this statement - although the current state of her situation was hardly conducive to lying. Self-preservation warned against it, with a vampire cupping her cheek, his face so close to her throbbing pulse. It was a tempting rhythm, and Kaname was insensibly hungry, having only minimally recovered since arriving in Somarium. But to bite a human would not be worth the fleeting pleasure and relief from said hunger, and so he intentionally kept his eyes trained on her face, not straying to her exposed throat.

"I want to believe you, Naomi," Kaname murmured, letting his fingertips trail tenderly down her cheek. He paused for few seconds, considering her admission.

"I am satisfied for now," the pureblood concluded, releasing her.

In a blink, Kaname was poised to leave, glancing back at her through the open doorway. The wind unsettled the hair across his eyes.

"I trust you've learned your lesson," Kaname added, referring to his reaction the last time she threatened someone close to him. It served as a warning and a promise, if she anticipated repeating the offense in the future now that he had returned to Somarium.

"Good afternoon, Doctor," he said, leaving her to her work, alone in her lab once more.
