And why would a mortal have need for an explanation?

[Tieria quickly turns and looks up, a scowl on his face. This place is starting to make less and less sense as the day goes on. What sort of technology is this person using to be able to do that...?]

A mortal? [He scoffs] I have found myself in this place unexpectedly and would like information as to my whereabouts.

And what would that information do for you? It's not as though you can change your location simply by knowing about it.

Insects reproduce resulting in large numbers. I do not believe that is the case here.

Humans reproduce very quickly. Every time you turn back, they build a town, or a city. It's almost something like an annoyance.
