A rainbow. An optical spectrum of light. A calming, serene and perfect arc of bright, brilliant colours.
Rainbows weren’t something Lightning was particularly interested in. They were rare and barely visible back home and even when they did decide to arc across the sky, she was never able to see them, not that she wanted to of course. But here, where her job, troubles and ticking life span had all been temporarily halted, she found herself with more time to invest in simple, meaningless tasks that she would have never normally taken part in.
This was a perfect example.
As the storms finally cleared over Somarium and the vibrant, multi-coloured arc had made itself known in the distance, Lightning found herself making a short sprint up a steep, grassy hill to get a better look. She gazed upon it in awe, wracking her brain for possible answers as to how something as unpleasant as a thunderstorm could leave behind something so beautiful. It was truly puzzling to her, but at the same time completely inspiring. If something positive could come out of a situation like that, maybe it could be applied to all bad situations? Like a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.
She shook her head, and took a seat under one of the many trees adorning the hill. It was a naive and childish way to think, overly optimistic and completely contrasting to her otherwise pessimistic outlooks on life. But, the more time she invested in looking at rainbows, the more time she invested in optimism as well.
She sighed quietly as a small, rare smiled formed upon her lips.
She really was beginning to get soft.
