The Church is silent and still at this hour. Stray breezes occasionally rustle the roses outside, but the air inside the walls remains as motionless as a still-life painting. The moon casts light in through the windows, making strange shadows and shapes from the stained glass.
The scene is peaceful. For all the Church's late goddess is no longer in Somarium, there's nothing to say that no lingering touch of protection remains.
The spell of stillness is broken when a glowing figure phases in through a stained glass window high on a wall, floating down between the pews. Danny yawns as he lands, making no effort to keep quiet. After all, everyone should be sound asleep at this hour.
His arms stretch up in a back-cracking stretch, before he drops down on all fours, obscured from sight. A bright flash pierces the darkness, blinding in its intensity. Danny rubs his eyes tiredly, glad he'd closed them just then--he has no stars or afterimages, like he would if he hadn't.
Now very human, Danny heads for the stairs. No more flying or glowing for him--time for bed.
