Quiet and subtle were rarely words that could be applied to Ed, but if there was ever one thing that could shock him into momentary silence it was loud teenage girls. Which is exactly what he was dealing with here, only she didn't seem to be yelling at anyone in particular.
Ed had been lucky so far, in that he had yet to actually bump into a new arrival while they still had no idea what was going on - it was hard enough being one, nevermind having to explain the whole situation to someone else

"That's never stopped them before," Rachel said darkly, looking for the sound of he voice. She caught side of a short blonde kid and sigh.
"Who're you, where are we, and what the hell is going on?" she asked flatly. "Details aren't necessary, but I'd like to at least know what planet this is."
Or ... Maybe she was just insane. That was always a possibility.
"I'm Edward Elric." He'd been here long enough to know that got him no degree of recognition, despite the instinctual expectation that he'd at least been heard of. Still, the straight forward route seemed to be the approach she was going for, and he could handle that mentality. Even if a question about what planet they were on was enough to throw him off, he pretended otherwise.
"We're in a world called Somarium. The thing is apparently we're not really here, we're just stuck in a dream - and our real selves are living life like this never happened. That's the theory, anyway. The little thing you probably found when you got here is how people communicate with each other, but when you sleep it also records your dreams. I guess privacy isn't a big thing in this place. It's pretty unpredictable, but to be honest I don't know much else about it, myself."
"My name is Rachel," she said skeptically. She looked at the cell phone; lots more buttons than any one she'd ever seen. Any one from good ol' Earth, anyway.
"That isn't possible," she said flatly. "I'm dead."
Okay, that was a new one - at least for him - and she was the one sounding skeptical. Edward quirked a brow at how simply she delivered that line, watching her carefully as if seriously considering that insanity theory. "Have you been dead awhile?"
That depended on your definition of 'awhile,' Rachel thought. She'd died and then the Ellimist hit the pause button for some massive exposition, and she knew time had passed. But he was the Ellimist, and he could break those rules.
"I don't think so?" she said, the question mark clearly audible. "I mean, the polar bear clawed me, I closed my eyes," screamed that guy and let him ramble, "and then woke up here."
Well. That only encouraged his theory, not that he really knew anything about the thoughts she wasn't sharing... Although he had enough of his own strange experiences to find that less alarming than most people.
"It's possible that when you died you came here, instead of dying, isn't it?"
"I guess anything is possible at this point," Rachel mused. It wasn't like it was unheard of, why would Crayak and the Ellimist be the only ones with that kind of ability?
"Still... It's crazy to want to die, but I hate the thought of some big jerk dragging me here against my will."
She hadn't wanted to die, she was sixteen-years-old with friends and family and Tobias.
"Yeah, I don't think anyone's really happy about ending up here." He couldn't really relate to the whole dying thing, especially the part where she could actually look back and know that she was supposed to be dead, and instead she was here. For a brief moment he wondered if Al ever thought like that - but he quickly dismissed the idea that his brother would rather be dead than what he did to him, trying to think of something a little more reassuring to say to her.
Except for the fact that he really had nothing. "Look, at least if you're here you have some time to continue living life. You might even see your family and friends again."
Rachel absorbed the words, let them register in her mind, and didn't focus on them. Yeah, second chance; Yeah, she'd thrown a huge problem on to this kid's head; Yeah, she might see the others again--
Wait, what? ...well.
"I guess if I could end up here, they could, too, one day," she said. "I mean, does that happen a lot? Or is everyone just a bunch of strangers?"
What the hell, I remember responding to this one already.theignorantfoolApril 25 2010, 05:57:41 UTC
"Anything's possible." He agreed with a shrug. "When I first showed up here, there was a name on the contact list of someone that I knew back home. I didn't think it was possible, since he's dead, but if you're here and you're supposed to be dead..."
Edward trailed off, smirking almost wistfully. "There were a handful of people here from where I'm from, when I arrived. They all left before I knew enough about this place to realize they were here, but they were here. I'm sure your friends could show up too, if you did."
