Javert understood remarkable strength. He had seen it in men like Jean Valjean, who despite his old bones, could lift as much as four healthy young men combined. That kind of strength was enough to give him a rare shudder when it was turned on him.

"Stronger than you look, indeed," muttered Javert.

This kind of strength could not compare. It was not even in the same universe - quite literally. Such feats were impossible in 19th century France.

The Inspector furrowed his brow, a deep grimace at his lip, his gaze locked on the crumbled splinters at his feet. He stepped forward and brushed the splinters with his boot. There was a perceptible crunch under his heel. He crouched where the tree once stood and drew a handful of mulch in his hand. No hallucinations today! The spectacle was real, and not simply an elaborate illusion.

But Nakago would witness no terror from Javert. He would witness no visible fear or anxiety. Instead, the man had a propensity to grow more rigid and contrary in the face of the severely unsettling. He dropped the splinters and clapped the dirt off of himself.

"Well, you don't leave the police wanting for strength." It was an absent-minded, cold remark, his mind still processing what he had just witnessed. He rose to his feet, turning to regard Nakago. "The paperwork's waiting, isn't it? Let's get it done. You have the remainder of the day to rest. For the rest of the week you will shadow Sanada and Asch. Then you will receive your independent assignments."

Javert's reaction was rather amusing. A fact he didn't mention nor show. He merely nodded his acceptance of the fact as he waited for the man to finish his conclusion. What he heard pleased him. The rest of the week shadowing others. Then working on his own. Nakago nodded again calmly.

This was working well.

"Of course." He waited until Javert joined him so that his new superior could lead the way back. Give him that power after showing him that he could steal his position easily. Destroy him even.

He could smile later once Javert was not there to see him.
