[So this would be Ken breaking curfew just to find out what would happen because seriously what's the worst that could happen discovering that he REALLY DID NOT WANT TO KNOW THAT KTHX. The discovery that he's not the only human-shaped thing at RATCON 1998 (or... well, whatever year it is in Somarium right now) is a welcome one.]

Hey! Over here!

[He really wishes he'd been able to find the way out he was looking for now, because here he is what feels like ass deep in rats. It's not that Ken has anything against rats most of the time, but these rats certainly seem to have something against him and trying to fight them off armed with a bit of wood while dressed in pajamas isn't his idea of a great evening. Cursing, he kicks the rats away and makes his way over, breathing perhaps a little too hard. Not that he's noticed this yet.]

Goddamn rats! Why don't they have a curfew?!

[Ah, wit.]

[On the other hand, it doesn't make much of a difference to Senri whether he's alone or not--though now that someone else is here, he starts swiping the rats near him as well. Because he's nice like that. C:]

Your breathing...

[Senri can be observant?]

Hello. You are okay?

[Ohthankgod company. Ken is relieved to have the backup. He's not so much so to realize that, once again, communication difficulty is about to become the order of the day. He's officially used his (ohgod so faltering) English more in the last few days than he has in the rest of his life to date. He's not doing anywhere near as badly as he thought he would, but it's really beginning to get him down.

[Still, he's at least learning in one respect: he's not even trying Japanese on this guy... but why did nobody tell him this was going to be important? Why did nobody say, hey, Hidaka, pay attention in English classes in case you ever find yourself stuck in a warehouse full of rats with nine million English-speakers, ten times the number of rats and Youji Kudou for company?

[That's right, because he wouldn't have believed them if they had. He straightens slightly, wiping his brow, and kicks another rat away from himself.]

I not understand that word.

[He claws away at another rat.]

Breathing...?

[Unfortunately, that's the most you're going to get out of him, Ken, seeing as how Senri fails at Basic Communication 101. Especially when it comes to explaining things.]

[Ken is beating another rat away with his piece of wood, muttering curses under his breath, but he looks up again and nods when Senri repeats himself.]

That word. I not understand that word.

[Bu-ri-jii-- fuck it, no clue what that means. He hopes it wasn't anything important.

[It's not like Ken's a weakling or anything but good Christ this is beginning to wear him down and it's sounding like a better and better idea to see if he can find somewhere that isn't full of crazed rodents with a grudge against his pant cuffs. Maybe then he could rest up a bit, get his strength back - maybe it's the lack of sleep and food, but he's starting to feel a bit... weird.]

You know place... no rats are?

[He shakes his head. He hasn't bothered to check, particularly since the notion of fleeing never really occurs to him.]

[Oh, this is not good. There has to be somewhere they can go (Ken thinks while swatting at what feels like the best part of another platoon of rats with the plank he's holding), the rats can't be everywhere and he - it's becoming more and more obvious with every passing moment - cannot keep this up indefinitely. Constantly fighting off angry rodents for the best part of an entire night would be no joy if he was well-fed and well-rested, though possibly it would be possible. Take away the bit where he was well-fed and well-rested and all bets were very clearly off.

[On the other hand, at least Senri's minimalist communication is easy to understand; at least he doesn't take Ken's ability to string together a clumsy sentence in English as an excuse to talk at him at a million miles an hour.]

Must find place. This... this get hard.

[It is. Running away doesn't usually occur to Ken either, but he's got enough experience of dangerous situations to know that the last thing you want to feel in the middle of one is tired. And he's starting ( ... )

[He's a little surprised at the whole "grabbing sleeve" thing, but he allows himself to be dragged away.

... This is strangely familiar.]

[Ken is aware on some level this was not the politest of moves but dammit rats there has to be somewhere he can go to get away from the damn things he is being eaten alive out here and this guy ain't gonna be doing any better if he leaves him to it. Ken can't in good conscience do that; he also doesn't think he'd be able to explain that to anyone's satisfaction in English. At least actions make sense, right?

[He's glad Senri isn't trying to argue the issue. Running for it's proving weirdly difficult as it is without having to fight against the guy: if it weren't for the rats he'd probably wonder why. Ken's in good shape, he has to be. He shouldn't be getting this tired this quick, and speaking of which...]

You look tired. Little tired.

[Senri has no sense of social niceties, so he doesn't even recognize any kind of rudeness in being dragged away.

He nods slightly.]

You too...
