Danny stared at the garden around him. Or at least what was left of it--any rose-bushes that were left were stripped skeletons of what they once were, stretching unhappily up from beds of sand. There were bits and pieces of debris carried in by the storm, sticking up from sand like ruined shipwrecks.
It was kind of depressing.
Danny glanced up Kohane (who was already diligently working, a small bundle of bare branches under one arm.) Then he looked at the wall surrounding the Church, making sure one last time that the gate was still closed--after all, with all those monsters around, it was probably best to keep it that way.
The boy sighs one last time, before turning to a splintered plank half-buried in the sand and picking it up. Then a random tree-branch... then another one...
