It had been hard finding a decent place to stay in ever since Kyou had left that creepy Undertaker's morgue but he was more than thankful to be out of the place as soon as the storm blew over. The thought of being around dead people wasn't pleasing at all. It didn't help that there had been too many deaths in his life already
( ... )
Just as he thought, he couldn't stabilize the kekkai's form with it flailing around so much. Maybe knocking it out first would work? Che, he'll have to get it above ground again. This distance should be far enough. He prepared himself before he let it-
He looked back when the question reached his ears. That boy again? Kyou was it? What was he doing outside?
"Get back, idiot!" He looked back up, he had to keep that shark- Kah, it broke! The shark dove back beneath the surface.
Upon closer inspection Kyou could see that the creature really was a shark. It was still beyond him how it was even able to levitate the way it did but whatever was holding it up seemed to have broken or worn off as the animal dove down, burying itself under the sand.
The boy was certainly confused by the turn of events. As if the sandstorm and the smaller creatures weren't enough.
"What the hell are you doing?" Even if he himself was out in the open, he couldn't help but wonder why Yoshimori had been so near a monster of that size. He had to be crazy if he was thinking of actually attacking something like that.
"Clearing out monsters. What are you doing outside?"
Yoshimori just peeked at Kyou's location for a second. Not finding the shark's location immediately, he decided to at least get Kyou out of immediate striking range. A barrier was formed below where Kyou was standing, then stretched upwards a few meters, ideally lifting him up to the air if he didn't move.At least they'd have a chance to react if the shark tried lunging for him.
Yoshimori continued frantically scanning his surroundings for any sign of that fin.
Kyou clicked his tongue, crossing his arms over his chest. His gaze was elsewhere, staring at anything but Yoshimori. "You'd want out too if you were where I was." The thought of having to go back to that morgue sent shiver down his spine. He'd rather be out here battling the elements than staying in that dark place with that Undertaker guy.
Suddenly, Kyou realized that he was the horizon he was looking at was no longer steady. "What the--" Before he could finish what he was saying, whatever had happened to the shark earlier looked like it was happening to him. He was off the ground and hovering at least a foot from it. "What the hell are you doing?"
"What do you think? Making sure the shark doesn't eat you!" Yoshimori snapped back quickly. He didn't have the time for this. Where was-
There! The fin was quickly closing in on him.
"Ketsu!" ...Maybe a little too quickly. The fin went by before the barrier could push it above ground. The kekkaishi tumbled away, but still ended up with a cut on his leg from the fin's edge. It was only then when he noticed that just ahead the shark's path was Kyou's position...
"I meant this thing!" Kyou demanded an explanation for whatever it was that was lifting him off the ground. It wasn't that he was afraid of heights or anything - it wasn't even too high up for that matter - he just didn't like the fact that something that he couldn't see was doing it. And it looked like Yoshimori knew something about it
( ... )
It's not like he's the only one who could fight it... It's not like he's so arrogant to think that only he could deal with these monsters. During his time here, he has seen several others with surprising abilities that could probably hold their own. This guy could probably do something like that. He just... he just doesn't want any more people dying. Even if they're strong, anyone could still end up dying in a fight like this. Like Gen...
He can handle this himself. Kyou shouldn't have to risk himself too.
"Shut up. You can get down when I'm done with this." He tried to set a few barriers to push the shark out, but they kept missing. "Damn."
"Hey!" He banged his fist once more as he watched Yoshimori try to catch the shark.
Kyou wasn't going to just stand out there and watch as that kid battled some sand creature. He had to help somehow, if only he could somehow get out of that stupid barrier.
Wait a minute. Wasn't that shark able to get out if it after moving around? Kyou then braced himself as he threw his body at the wall a couple of times, hoping that he could somehow get the same result as the shark had earlier.
He continued his efforts a couple more times before the barrier gave way. His momentum however was too much and had launched him flying through the air as the barrier broke. He tried to steady himself so he could fall somewhat decently but had misjudged his trajectory somewhat, landing painfully on his arm.
A small grunt of displeasure escaped his mouth. He was in pain. It wasn't unbearable but it was still enough to make him wince. Pushing himself back onto his feet, he ran towards Yoshimori. "You're not the only one taking this damn thing on!"
"HOW'D YOU-" He was surprised, but was glaring and pointing at Kyou. The question wasn't really necessary and was said out of reflex, so he cut himself off. He already sensed what happened to his barrier. His main concern was that Kyou was now open to being shark food. That idiot. He even wants to fight it too. He'd be rubbing his temples now if he wasn't preoccupied. Speaking of which, he raised a barrier as a wall in front of them. Seconds later, the shark banging into it underground could be heard.
"Fine, can you knock it out or something when I get it up in the air?" He didn't like putting people in danger without knowing if they can handle it, but might as well try to get rid of it before it eats him!
Kyou ignored Yoshimori's question, instead keeping his attention on that shark. "Shouldn't you--" Before he could finish his question a barrier had gone up and a crash was heard. Looks like that shark was not going to let up until he's had his fill.
A quick pang coursed through his arm, and his other arm shot up to massage the area. Maybe that fall was worse than he had thought. Augh, not now. He'd probably have to have that checked later.
Fighting away the pain, he listened to the instructions Yoshimori had given him. If it had been any other situation, he may not have listened to someone like him but he was willing to push his pride aside, seeing as this wasn't the time or place for it. "You're gonna try to do what you did last time?" He wasn't sure if he would be able to attack well enough if the thing were too high up but it was worth a shot, right?
He nodded in approval before balling his hands. "Do it."
"Alright." Yoshimori kept his breathing steady and cleared his mind as much as he could. He was in his battle stance, two fingers raised in front of his face. Though his previous attempts have failed, he got a grasp of the shark's movement. Combined with what he learned of seeing things just as they are, it didn't take long for him to keep track of the patterns it made. After a while, he got a lock on the perfect timing.
"It's heeere!" Swinging his arm up, a barrier bumped to the shark from below, pushing it as well as a lot of the sand upwards. The area affected was a bit large, but he had to make sure he hit his mark this time.
