The storm had done many horrible things.
Atoli strolled around the shopping district, getting more upset as she saw more precious things destroyed. Many stores were ruined, the pretty plaza gone, and the general streets were a mess.
She didn't like this at all.
Then she spotted someone - someone who shouldn't be here. And it was nice to meet her again. A nice change from the gloomy sand gusts. Her small smile only faltered though as she neared the spot where Minatsuki's greenhouse once stood. Slowly realization surfaced.
"...I'm sorry you had to see this, Minatsuki-san."
It took her a few moments to register that it was Atoli. She was another strangely suddenly unfamiliar face after the time lapse she had experienced after her death.
Atoli. She had talked to her and been kind to her for whatever reason. She was one of those people like Ganta who was kind for the sake of being kind and believed in others because they felt that it was the right thing to do. Both were things that Minatsuki could not bring herself to do. The fragments she had grasped of the concepts were hard to hold on to.
Ah, well, that was certainly understandable. Anyone would be upset at a situation like this.
She observed a nearby withered flower - a daisy if she's not mistaken - with sad eyes. Then turned her full attention to Minatsuki. Her eyes unusually looked determined. "You'll rebuild the shop, right?" Then a soft smile. "It might not be much, but please let me help with restoring the flowers, Minatsuki-neesan. I'd hate to seem them just go away like this."
So everyone was telling her that she should rebuild. She pressed her lips together, trying not to be frustrated and angry again. Trying not to respond with fury in the face of Atoli's innocent determination.
She spoke in a measured way. "I don't know if I'll rebuild. I don't know if I want to."
But Minatsuki had put such a care in her shop, had pride in it. Loved her flowers dearly ... Atoli couldn't understand why she wouldn't want to rebuild it. She furrowed her brow carefully, her tone cautious.
"I don't know," she said again, and that was the honest answer forced out of her. She couldn't figure out why it felt so utterly hopeless to even think of trying to rebuild it. "It would just be destroyed again."
"That's ... true." But, was it though? Sure, destruction was inevitable. All things came to an end: animals, people, planets. But some others things always appeared in its place to fill the void. Having nothing in its place would - ....
- "But not rebuilding the shop ... wouldn't that make you feel bit lonely, Minatsuki-neesan?"
Because sometimes, Atoli herself had that feeling too ... expect it was with a person.
She closed her eyes and cursed inwardly, because she knew that she couldn't lie. "Yes," she admitted, looking strained as she turned away angrily. "Look-- Atoli- just leave me the hell alone."
"I-I am sorry ...! I didn't mean to ... I just wanted to cheer you up, Minatsuki-neesan." She looked down apologetically although she wasn't sure what she had done to make the other girl upset.
Atoli's reaction made her feel distinctly uncomfortable, and she brought a hand to her opposite shoulder, rubbing it as she stared at the ground in an unfocused manner. "It's not your fault," she said, and those were the most apologetic words she could bring herself to say.
A relieved breath - it wasn't loud enough to be a sigh - escaped from her. "Then I am glad."
But Minatsuki's behavior was rather odd. She couldn't help but notice it now. As if she was very uncomfortable standing there. "Well, even if you don't want to rebuild the shop, my offer still stands." She tilted her head a bit, curiously. "...Are you tired of it?"
"No, I'm not," she said. That was the farthest thing she felt about the greenhouse. How could she grow tired of something that had been so important to her? But it would only, inevitably, be taken away from her again.
Atoli smiled her usual smile. "Then that's all I need to hear."
She stepped back fully now and examined the wreckage again with Minatsuki in front of it. It really didn't fit her at all. The pretty, if not somewhat loud, pink flower shop complete with lively flowers suited Minatsuki-neesan way better than rubble of concrete and dead plants.
"I know you're not in the mood to right now. But, please think about rebuilding it? My offer is still valid, Minatsuki-neesan."
And after giving her a slight bow, she turned to leave.
