He needn't have worried. Haku's toughness had built up from his years with Zabuza; that hit was just enough for a light stun.

A few seconds later, Haku's senses returned in a rush of sound and smell and touch. Instinctively, he threw himself to his feet, his hands going for his weapon holsters and slashing out with the senbon repeatedly. He was already cursing himself for getting hit like that; the last thing he needed was to get neutralized at a time like this!

With him and the wolf working together, the rest of the monsters went down fairly quickly. However, Haku looked up just in time to see the worm rushing towards them like some grotesque train. Oh, no.

No time for a counterattack, and too big and powerful for a suitable block. The rest was all instinctive. He threw one of his arms around the wolf. Then, he made a quick seal with his other hand. For a second, heavy winds whirled around the two. An instant later, they had vanished.

Fortunately, another instant later, they reappeared in more gusting winds directly behind the worm. Releasing the wolf, Haku glanced down at him. He seemed to be alright. Bracing himself for the rest of the battle, Haku reached down and drew out more senbon.

Okay, since when could humans manipulate wind and teleport? This boy wasn't one of the norms that was for sure.

But there wasn't any time to ponder on things like that for long. The worm swung itself around and attacked the spot where the boy and he stood ready. As if planned before, they separated in different directions. Because it had to chase two prey at once, the worm was confused for a brief second.

It was a chance

He barked several times (We have to attack now!) before pouncing on top of the worm and dug his teeth into the pink flesh.

Ewwwww, it tasted so nasty. Yuck.

Haku had already picked up on the strategy, and wasn't far behind the wolf. Of course, he didn't bite into it; he brandished the senbon between his fingers like claws, hacking repeatedly into the worm's soft flesh. The screams of the beast were deafening, and it was hard to hold on as it flailed, trying desperately to throw them off, but Haku was tough enough to stay on and keep hacking.

Soon, the worm's struggles got much weaker. They were close to the end.

Kinda gets nasty here ... er, sorry? lol grannyswolf September 7 2009, 21:44:24 UTC
When the worm's flailing got weaker, Toboe knew it had to be close now. A hunter's intuition if you will. He dug his claws deeper and deeper until he could see the insides and then - ran.

He ran alongside the worm's top and it made a long, gore-ific incision. And little of worm's intestines tumbled out from it, stilling connected with red cords.

But amazing it was still alive. Did he have to get down there and disconnect them? The human boy's metal needles could be really useful now!

S'okay. As of now, I'm guilty of it too. precious_person September 7 2009, 21:52:34 UTC
Haku had to admire the way the wolf unhesitatingly did that to the worm. It was the move of a warrior.

He recognized, as the wolf had, that despite all the wounds they had given it, it was still alive. And he saw the intestines, and knew that it would be up to him to get it done. Moving to where the innards leaked out, he took a deep breath, drew two senbon, and began.

The innards were tougher than he had expected; much more than human, he knew that much. It took about twenty seconds of ripping and pulling before a part of the inside would come apart. As he had the first time he'd learned about the human systems, he had to resist the urge to gag.

But he knew he was on the right track; the worm's already weak struggles were getting weaker and weaker still. So he fought down the urge to pull his crimson-stained hands away and kept going.

And within minutes, the worm was dead. Just like that.

Jumping down from now dead monster (And somehow the monsters that were surrounding them fled - the gigantic earth dweller must have been their leader), Toboe strolled over to where the boy was by the shredded body tissues. It was faint but he could sense that he was upset.

He whined slightly at him as if to ask him if he was okay.

Haku noticed as the monsters fled. No need to follow them; there were other people in Somarium who were more than capable of taking care of them. He was breathing heavily; he hadn't fought like that since he'd gotten here. I must be out of practice. he thought wearily. He'd have to start getting back into the habit of training.

When he heard the whine, he glanced over at the wolf. He smiled; it was a tired smile, but it was a smile nontheless. "I'm fine." he assured the canine. "Just tired." As he spoke, he tried to wipe his bloodstained hands off the stone ground. Some of it came off, although he'd probably have to wash them.

"Don't overdo it."

And just like that, the boy Toboe is there, looking rather concerned. The blood that had spattered on his fur was now a dry mess that clung uncomfortably to the skin, and although he should be used to it, he subconsciously peeled it off. He should probably go home and wash himself.

But before that...

"You're not injured anywhere, are you?"

He should make sure the boy was all right.

When the wolf became a boy his age once again, Haku briefly wondered how he did it. He would ask, but it didn't really matter.

And as for the injuries...he considered it for a moment, mentally checking himself for injuries. His chest was sore from the hit the worm had given him, but he couldn't feel any other significant pain. In the fashion Zabuza had taught him, he ran his hands quickly along his arms, legs, and torso. He couldn't feel any breaks, fractures, and nothing that would hamper him.

"I don't think so." he answered. Then, he glanced at the boy. "Yourself?" he asked.

He clutched the right side of his ribs slightly - it was the side he had collided with the brick wall. He hadn't notice because he was preoccupied with the rush of adrenaline, but now that he was calming down, the dull pain surfaced its ugly head.

"Well, I think one of my ribs is out ... but I'll be all right after I rest a bit."

He forced a grin.

Haku was unconvinced. "It might be fractured. If it keeps up, you should see a doctor." He knew what he was talking about; during missions, he'd taken many kicks to the ribs. More than he'd have liked, really.

He grimaced. "I don't think there are any vets here ... And going to a human doctor would be little strange."

Toboe heaved a small sigh and sat down on a remain of a crumbled building. It was taking a bit to heal ... he hoped it wasn't fractured as the boy had said. Ouch.

"Good point." Haku commented. He was again tempted to ask how the boy became a wolf, but again decided that it wasn't worth it.

"Well, now that we're not fighting for our lives," he went on, his serious face breaking into a friendly smile, "I think it would be nice to introduce ourselves. What do you think?"

"And I say that's a good idea." He laughed brightly before grabbing his side in annoyed manner. Laughing kind of hurt... Jee, he really might have to look for a medical help after all.

"A-anyway! My name is Toboe," he pondered the next option - Tsume did mention that there were no hunters in this world, "I am wolf."

He smiled - perhaps as a sign that he wasn't dangerous or hostile.

Haku smiled back. "A pleasure to meet you, Toboe." he said kindly. "I'm Haku. I'm a ninja."

He figured since the boy had revealed something about himself (that he was not a human who could become a wolf, but a wolf who could become a human), he could reveal something about himself in turn.

A delicate eyebrow rose curiously, "A Nin...ja?" He had never heard so it, even when the pack was traveling across the vast winter lands.

"Hmmm... Afraid I haven't heard of one of those. Oh, is that why you could do that thing where you appeared on the other side of the monster?"

Hey, he's a curious kid. Beef him up with some answers, please?
