The last thing Phoenix remembered was that he had countless sheets of paperwork to fill out and that, perhaps, he was a little too bored with the repetitive markings. He had fallen asleep upon a stack of cases, because actually, paperwork can be comfortable.
He had been at work, filing paperwork, drinking coffee, doodling little dragons on the corner of his notebook-- the usual. Maya had arrived early that morning to help him put things away, but she had left 20 dollars richer for lunch just a few minutes ago.
Phoenix had a pretty regular sleep cycle. He usually went to bed at around 11 PM, and that usually meant he got a decent nights sleep before the next days early rising. Usually. His sleep was patchy at best; he couldn't stop thinking about... everything. It had been a week since State vs. Iris case-- he'd had trouble sleeping ever since. It was a strange realization to wrap his head around.
But all of that was old news, as far as Phoenix was currently concerned. He didn't recognize anything, and everything felt so... real. He could feel the breeze on his face, hear his shoes click as he walked-- and he could certainly feel the sharp pinch he gave his left arm. He frowned, letting out a small "ow!" before rubbing it in vain. It looked like nothing he had ever seen before, and yet something about it felt familiar, and he just couldn't place it. His hands gently touched the broken bricks that would have, perhaps one day, have been apart of a house or archway. Blue eyes scanned the area as his feet carried him further into the small village; it looked as though it were abandoned.
"... Hello?"
He felt rather stupid, speaking out when he couldn't actively see anyone-- but if it allowed him to speak with someone, then looking a little stupid was the least of Phoenix's worries. "Is anyone here?"
