The sound of footsteps alerted Ciel to someone's approach, and he turned quickly, tension turning his shoulders rigid. He didn't like being approached from his blind side, particularly by strangers.
"What is your name and what is the name of this village?" he demanded immediately, expecting a prompt response. He was, after all, an earl of Britain.
The vampire's eyes almost widened from the boy's sudden outburst. Somehow it was like deja vu all over again. Well, he couldn't say that the boy would remember him, but then again, it was certainly a surprise to see him react the same way... well twice. The vampire stopped midway, to look at the boy and spoke to him rather calmly.
"I don't suppose you'd remember a passerby a while back, but I do believe I've told you my name," he paused, "It's Duzell," he mused, not adding the 'Vampire King' part to it, "You're in Somarium, it's called the 'dream world' to most," he finished.
Ciel's eyebrows rose. "If you're suggesting that we've met before, I find that highly unlikely," he informed the man coolly. "I rarely socialize." Except, of course, when it was forced on him, which happened more often than he would have liked. And it wasn't as though he made it a great point to remember names and faces of anyone that didn't interest him, but that was irrelevant, because running into some London socialite here--wherever this was--seemed highly unlikely.
"Somarium?" His eyebrows drew together in a frown. "What do you mean, dream world?"
Duzell's hand rested on his forehead for a moment. Well, this place certianly had a way with tampering with memories of others. Either that, or the boy really did forget him. He's assuming the first, however. Yes, it was obvious the boy wasn't around people so often.
"Yes, I can tell," he added softly under his breath. When the other asked again he merely answered the same as he did before, "Yes, Somarium. It is a world within a dream," the vampire finished. HE had been here long enough to figure out everything. That was the only way it would make sense, even if Ciel seemed to not get it.
"That's why you possess this... dreamberry. It has the tendency to record dreams."
Ciel frowned yet again. That answer was neither forthcoming nor helpful. "If you intend to speak only in riddles..." He let the sentence fall unended and began to turn away, but paused when Duzell spoke again. Dreamberry? What a ridiculous name. Actually, it sounded like something the Funtam Company would manufacture.
"Is that hard to comprehend?" he replied running a hand through his white hair. Well, what else was he going to say about this place? It was a dream world within a dream. It just meant they were all sleeping in the the real world where they belong. They were just stuck in this dream world until they wake up.
"Try your pockets," Duzell pointed, "Everyone who is here has a Dreamberry," he mused.
He wasn't speaking in metaphor, then? He literally meant that this was a dream world? Could this man truly believe what he was saying? It sounded ridiculous to Ciel. Yet he had thought himself dreaming when he first woke here.
Ciel slid his hands into the pockets of his coat. Nothing there. He was about to say as much when he noticed a new ring on the forefinger of his left hand, a plain but heavy silver band that he'd never seen before, much less worn. His eyes narrowed as he drew the ring off...then widened as it transformed into a small device in his hand.
Duzell waits for the boy to find something. When he did. The vampire knew that he was surprised by it. Even the vampire was, when that small Kyarru doll that Ishtar had was with him. It's still hidden somewhere in his cloak. There wasn't any way he was going to take the damn thing out at all. No way. IT didn't suit a vampire king.
"That would be the Dreamberry, your communication device," he pointed out, "It seems to take forms of material things according to the person," he paused, "From what I've seen at least."
