As amazed as he was at first by the impossibly tall buildings of the city, Zuko was now just more and more annoyed with them because they made it that much more difficult to find his way out of the cursed place. There was no way that these were all made by Earth Benders. Most of them weren't even made of stone! Some of them were made of this strange kind of metal... But that was something more typical in the Fire Nation, and if there was a place like this in the Fire Nation, the prince would have known about it!
Fine. As ridiculous as it sounded, he'd go along with the whole idea that this world was a dream. However, even if on the off chance that were really true, there had to be some kind of way to get out of this place. If he could just figure out what was beyond the city, he may be able to figure out where he was. Ah! Finally! He found a way out of the city...
Zuko came to a complete halt, his jaw dropping in shock. Just beyond the borders of the city, the desert spread on and on. How had they managed to make such a huge settlement in the middle of this kind of wasteland at all, let alone one that could sustain itself, and continue to support plant life!? It would be a terrible idea to try to cross it alone without getting some supplies first. Still, he wanted to go out a little bit to see if he could see anything else on the horizon further out of the city...
SMACK! The boy didn't even know what hit him. Suddenly, the moment he was about to leave the city, he found himself flung back on his behind as if he had run into a wall... But there was nothing there! ... Oh. Ok, there was nothing there before. There were odd markings forming a wall where he just tried to get through, but they quickly faded. Even more determined now, Zuko got back up, brushed himself off, and charged to try to get out again... OUCH! No such luck! He got knocked back even further that time. One of his hands clenched on the ground and he shoved himself up, yet again.
"Let me out already!" He shouted towards the invisible wall. Zuko took in a deep breath, and with a cry of frustration, he reeled up a punch and let loose a burst of flames at the stupid barrier!
... And of course, he had to literally throw himself to the ground to get out of the way when it rebounded right back at him! It's official. Zuko completely hated this place.
