Kaname's crimson eyes rose when he saw Edward enter the dining hall. Though his expression didn't change, he nodded his head slightly at the other vampire and waited for him to get settled at the table. Kaname knew that the other man had uncertainties about him. He wasn't exactly surprised. Edward couldn't read him and he had no way of knowing whether or not his intentions towards the younger vampire were genuine

Edward nodded slowly. “Yes, I… suppose that makes sense. I only talked to her once or twice, even though we lived together. She seemed nice enough.”
He was distracted, though. He had heard Kaname talk about “blood tablets” but had never really seen them in action before. How did they work? How was it possible for a mere tablet to turn water into… well, blood?
“Those tablets…” he said. “How is it possible to get your nourishment from such a tiny little thing? Is the blood contained within the tablet really that potent?”
The conversation had quickly turned away from Rise to other things. Kaname wasn't complaining. There really wasn't much to be said about her, but if Edward decided to question him further, he had nothing to hide

Edward deftly caught the bottle in his hand, twisting it around to get a better look at it and the pills inside as Kaname spoke about the tablets and their properties. Really, the pills looked like any normal medication, but he could smell the faint scent of blood emanating from them... and it made him realize he needed to go hunting soon, if only to keep Estelle safe.
"So," Edward started once Kaname was finished, "the tablets are injected with human blood then? The people who make these... are humans killed in the process... or is blood merely taken from places such as hospitals or other sources of blood banks in your world?"
He studied the tablet some more, placing it back in the bottle. "It's interesting that vampires in your world are constrained and willing to digest a mere pill in order to get what they need. Are there fairly strict laws against feeding off of humans? It seems as if the hierarchy in your world is quite more stringent than in mine."
"I would imagine that Naomi did not kill anyone to obtain blood for the composition," Kaname said with a small smile. "In my own world, the same was true. Furthermore, I was the one responsible for mandating the use of blood tablets. There was a following of people who accepted my terms, but there are always those who deviate."
He nodded his head at the tablet. "No one was harmed in the creation of it, so if you ever need one in an emergency or you would like to try them some time, you are welcome to do as such." He closed his eyes for a moment. "But I know how different it is to actually hunt for one's food. There is more gratification in the entire experience; however, I do not wish to harm humans and I have no desire to subsist off of animal blood." His eyes opened then. "Though, I am willing to try it."

"I wouldn't be averse to trying one, though, as I believe I've mentioned, the venom that coats my teeth makes my blood different from you and the vampires in your world. Though... I am glad that no one has to die for such small pills... it's one of the reasons I started drinking animal blood instead of human blood.
"But what do you mean you're "willing to try"? Are you talking about animal blood in general... or my own blood?" He mused to himself. "I never thought about it, but perhaps there is some truth to those vampire movies and animal blood effects different types of vampires in very different ways...?"

Kaname straightened his posture, pressing his back into the chair, and smiling slightly with the corner of one mouth. "I am willing to try both. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing when I will be placed back in my own world, so I am not opposed to experimentation." His finger moved up to touch his mouth as he thought for a moment. "As much as I believe my methods work where I come from, there will always be room for improvement... or change."

Edward hesitated, thinking through his reply. "The 'animals' in this world are rather... slim, meaning their blood is thin and not as... satisfying. I'm used to drinking from meatier animals, such as mountain lions. I've come to understand through a bit of research, though, that there is a desert beyond the city limits, so I have to wonder what's out there."
Then, he leaned forward a little, staring at Kaname as if he could really figure out what Kaname was thinking, though he knew it was a hopless effort. "I've never experimented by drinking another vampire's blood before. I suppose... it could provide for some interesting research... but, how do you suggest we might go about this? There is little that is able to pierce my skin."

Kaname lifted his eyes to Edward, curiously. That was new information. "Little that can pierce your skin? Why is that?" His fangs were, indeed, sharp and his strength could surmount nearly every entity in his own world, but skin that couldn't be broken... that was interesting.

"Vampires in my world are granted a number of gifts in order to catch prey - stregnth, speed, endurance, allure... and venom. Our skin is yet another way to ensure that we have the upper hand against our prey. If our prey was able to hurt or injure us in the process of drinking their blood... that would be... inconvenient

Skin that is comparable to marble... Kaname's gaze lifted to the ceiling as he considered this new information. "Well, I have never tried to bite through marble, but I am fairly certain that I can break through anything with strength alone." He sighed, crossing his arms over his chest as he thought aloud. "Still, the purpose of sharing blood would not be to harm you or cause you discomfort. While I would very much like to learn about the differences between your world and my own, I do not want an experience such as this to be entirely unpleasant for either of us."
