Bat - 001

Who: Bat and anyone who comes across him
Where: Espoir
Style: Third
Status: open

Nirvana was nothing like he'd expected.

Everything was so dry, for one thing. Bits of leaves crackled underfoot, dried up from the lack of constant rain, no doubt. Bat was still rubbing at his eyes, unused to the overall brightness of his surroundings ( Read more... )

Danny's only paying enough attention to his surroundings to make sure he stays on the sidewalk and doesn't wander into anyone. His eyes are glued to the Dreamberry in his hands, where his thumbs are wearing themselves out in a hurried array of button-pressing. Anyone familiar with Dreamberries or cellphones might recognize the classic symptoms of 'tunnel-gaming-vision'; those who aren't familiar might think he's just acting weird.

Either way, it's because of this that he doesn't notice other person on the sidewalk, heading in the opposite direction.

Equally entranced by his own device, if for different reasons, Bat runs straight into the boy. The Dreamberry nearly falls from his grasp, but he manages to catch it in time. Quickly regaining his composure, he makes to grab the brat by the front of the shirt with the intent of pinning him against the nearest wall.

"Watch it, you... thing..." He was human, right? They weren't usually this small. He was... younger?

Danny, who'd staggered back and dropped his own Dreamberry in surprise, is grabbed up rather easily. "Wha--!"His hands immediately latch on to Bat's, trying to keep himself from being strangled by his own shirt.

"Okay, okay!" Danny says quickly. "Sorry, it, uh, won't happen again!" It's depressing how quickly he's suddenly reverted to his bullied highschool persona. Just because he's been caught off guard in human form, it's like his weeks away from highschool haven't meant a thing. Of course, they didn't make people at home like they do here--purple hair and a pink tattoo? Danny can't see his clothes, but he's guessing they're just as weird as the rest of him. And did this guy just call him a 'thing'? If Danny weren't so obviously distracted, he might feel insulted.

"What are you?" Bat asked without letting the boy go. His hair and eyes were two different colors. That was something he'd never seen before and, combined with his small stature, this made Danny a unique being as far as Bat was concerned.

He gave the kid a bit of a shake. "Are you human?" Could this be his demon form? It was so plain, if so. Unless it was heavily magic oriented there was no way it could be stronger than his regular form. The way he was shrinking back just supported that theory.

Danny's eyebrows drew together quickly in unease. What kind of a question was that? Could this guy sense something else besides Danny's human form? Was he one of those people who could sense ghosts and souls, and all things that weren't normal with them? That uncertainty keeps Danny from answering until he's shaken around.

"Ow! Geeze, yeah, I'm human!" he yelps, gripping the hands holding him tighter.

"You're a..." Bat frowned. Some part of him knew what he was looking at. There was a word for it, yet he didn't know how he knew. "A teenager. A... a kid. A younger man." He released his hold on the boy, still frowning and blinking and confused more than anything.

"What's wrong with your eyes?" he followed up quickly, not liking how he was so thrown off by this.

Danny quickly steps out of arm's reach, looking a little more confused himself. Why would this guy have to confirm things like that out loud? It's not like he's never used the words before... right?

"There's nothing wrong with them!" Danny replies defensively, bringing a hand up to touch one eye. While he does that he descreetly checks to see if there's any light reflecting on his hand--no, his eyes aren't glowing. "Why?"

An alarm bell's ringing somewhere off in his head, trying to make itself noticed. If Danny were paying attention he might notice the familiar cluelessness in Bat's question, and the distinct style his clothes have. However, he's distracted by the questions themselves, so he's not noticing at all.

What was wrong with having an eye color that didn't match your hair? Bat wasn't exactly sure. He just knew it wasn't normal. Nothing about this place was normal and it was seriously throwing him off. He looked like a complete fool and he didn't like it.

"Your hair and eyes are two different colors," he pointed out simply, some of the aggressiveness gone from his voice and stance due to sheer bafflement. He couldn't even liken the kid's eyes to those in the Junkyard who hadn't awakened, for those had all been the same dull, pupiless gray.

Picking up on the fading agression, Danny relaxes a little, though a few sore places on his back continue to remind him that this is the same guy who just shoved him against a wall

"Yeah," he replies slowly. "So what?" This guy's eyes and hair were the same--maybe in his world things were different? "Are you new here, or something?"

Danny frowns while the alarm bells start to ring a little louder. Who else does he know with hair and eyes like that? He's probably it several times before, but something's telling him he should really remember specific cases, now...

It was rather obvious, wasn't it? Bat crossed both arms over his chest, regarding the boy with the sort of look most people reserved for deciding on the right cut of beef. The kid would hardly make a meal.

"Yeah, I'm new, boy." The word was new too, but fitting. He got a sort of perverse pleasure from addressing the small human that way. "And who are you?"

Danny scowls back, all signs of relaxation gone. He knows that look; that's the same look that--

Same clueless questions. Same general clothing style. Same eye-hair coordination.

Same predatory look, however little this one lasted.

The derogatory use of the word 'boy' doesn't pass unnoticed--he knows he's going to seriously dislike that name with time. Right now, though, he pays attention to the possibly very dangerous person in front of him,, glaring like a small, cornered animal. "I'm Danny. Who're you?"

Oh? Now he wanted to get tough? Was it something he said? The asura laughed shortly, leaning over the boy. (It was nice having the advantage of height for once. He wasn't exactly the tallest person in the Junkyard.) 'Danny' at least wasn't as strange a name as that girl's...

"Bat," he answered with a grin. Maybe he'd run? A chase could work his appetite up and then such a small snack might not be so bad.

Danny's glare darkens, and he takes a step or two away, not liking the looming at all. (Damnit why does everyone get to be taller than him?) Of course, the hungry, evaluating look's return is something he likes even less, and that has nothing to do with his late onslaught of puberty.

"Nice name, Batty," Danny replies. "Let me guess--you thought of it yourself?" ... Ah, perhaps another step back would be prudent.

Bat's grin turned into a scowl, then a confused frown. Where had his name come from, anyway? He hadn't given it to himself, had he? It had just been something he'd always had... To counter this taunt, and the subsequent further confusion, Bat gave Danny another shove in the hopes of knocking him to the ground.

"You just want to be devoured, don't you, boy?" The atma mark on his right arm began to glow violet, sending lines of energy the same color to spread over his bicep.

The shove throws Danny off balance, and he falls on the concrete sidewalk with as much of an impact as someone his size can make.

Danny sees the tendrils of the glow. He scrambles to his feet like he'd been burned, snapping, "No! You stay away from me, you cannabalistic freak!"

Danny starts backing away, keeping his eyes on Bat for any movement, any at all that might suggest a transformation or lunge in his direction. If there is, Danny won't hold back--he's not going to die just because of being stingy with his powers!

A freak? Bat scowled again, but the glow stopped spreading and eventually disappeared. He reached for one of the knives in his holster instead, flipping it a bit in one hand. He wouldn't need to transform to take this kid anyway.

"And what are you then, boy? What do you live off of? Are you going to tell me you're just a plain, ordinary human without the power?" Were there even any of those left in the Junkyard?
