Bat - 001

Who: Bat and anyone who comes across him
Where: Espoir
Style: Third
Status: open

Nirvana was nothing like he'd expected.

Everything was so dry, for one thing. Bits of leaves crackled underfoot, dried up from the lack of constant rain, no doubt. Bat was still rubbing at his eyes, unused to the overall brightness of his surroundings ( Read more... )

"... You."

A level, almost bored voice came from overhead... Of course this was only natural seeing as Cheshire was squatting upon one of the nearby rooftops, eying the man below with vague interest. His dark tail swung back and forth slowly a few times before curling around one of the cat-boy's legs; ears flicking in similar rhythm.

"Do you know where this place is?"

The Dreamberry is still being fumbled with, Bat knowing only a little more about it now than he did before. He didn't want to accidentally send out a message to someone. At the voice, he glares upwards and finally catches sight of the silhouette against the still-too-bright glare of the sun.

"Only that it's not where I thought it was." Not that he'd ever truly been certain where Nirvana was. That was beside the point.

It looked like the speaker was another demon - one of the sort that still looked mostly human after transforming. Bat had always wondered what the point was if you weren't going to morph completely.

"So you don't know either?" The feline concluded flatly, now looking rather annoyed with the whole situation. A slight pout had appeared on his face and he sat back against the roof; ears lowering. Putting his nose in the air in an almost haughty manner, Cheshire's single red eye continued to pan over the stranger in disinterest.

"You are... Useless."

One moment Bat was on the ground, in human form and scowling, the next he had transformed and flown up to where the cat-boy was. His hissed through sharp fangs, wings spread out threateningly.

"Say that again." Camazotz's voice had an odd sort of echo, though it came from only one mouth (unlike some demons he could name). "I'll devour you whole."

At the sudden morphing of the man the chain had pounced backwards several feet, his back arched as he bared his own fangs. The bells on his outfits jingled as he prepared for a possible attack.

"You heard Cheshire the first time. Repeating it would only be a bother... But who are you?"

"My name is Bat," the demon growled. "Are you another rookie?" He was a foolish one, if so. Bat had been second in command of the Maribel. One lone demon without a tribe would be nothing.

Looking at him like that, though... the other man had gall.

"Bat? That's a strange name... You don't seem to be another chain, though or Cheshire would recognize you." Cheshire seemed to muse to himself for a moment, inclining his head to one side slightly. His tail had begun flicking back and forth once again as he eyed the demon warily.

"But 'rookie'? What is that supposed to mean?"

Why was he still talking with this boy? He needed to just devour him and get it over with. His need for answers, however, was currently outdoing his hunger. "It means you aren't yet recognized as part of a tribe. If I'm wrong then you should take me to your leader and I might not eat you."

Not right away, anyway.

And there was nothing wrong with the name Bat! It was perfectly acceptable in the Junkyard. At least he didn't speak in third person.

"Nya? A tribe? Why would Cheshire need to be part of something like that? I have no 'leader' but the Will of the Abyss..." The feline pouted a bit in confusion, now inclining his head curiously in the other direction. He seemed to be in deep thought as he licked a large paw, eying the strange creature before him.

"... This really must be a different dimension. Annoying."

With a growl, Bat shifted back to human form, kneeling on the roof. He should be keeping a low profile anyway. This cat-thing was irritating, though. And now he was using more terms the demon was unfamiliar with.

"'Will of the Abyss?' 'Dimension?'" Did those have anything to do with the Karma Temple? Somehow he doubted it. This place looked like it could hardly even be associated with the Junkyard.

"You don't know what either of those are? Tch." Cheshire let out a vaguely-annoyed noise from the back of his throat; although he managed to refrain from noting how brainless he currently thought Bat was. From what he had experienced of the demon's nerves such words could lead to a fight... And he really didn't feel like wasting that sort of time and energy.

"Dimension. You know... Another world apart from wherever it is you came from? Cheshire can normally move between dimensions, but for some reason I can't leave this one. It's quite a bother..." He seemed to grow rather bored while talking and watched a passing bird with a hungry stare.

Another world? Bat continued to scowl at Cheshire. So this was another world, but it wasn't Nirvana? What did that mean? Had they been lied to?

Then again, he'd missed the actual journey part of it. In fact, seeing as the last thing he remembered was being beaten by the Embryon, it was just as likely that this was a place one went to when they...

No, that couldn't be it. He still hungered. And if the Embryon showed up on the device he had, would that mean they'd died as well? Given that they were going up against Varin it was entirely possible, but...

This little demon didn't know anything more about this place than he did. That made him just as useless. He didn't like being spoken to in this way anyway. "How did you get here?" The cat-boy has one more chance to avoid being consumed.

By this point the feline chain seemed to have relaxed in his place and had returned to a position on his haunches. He had taken to licking his paw again and his dark tail curled comfortably around a leg as he eyed bat boredly. "How did Cheshire get here?"

He repeated the words in a disinterested way, ears folding back against his head as he thought. "... Like I said, I can normally travel between dimensions. Cheshire was trying to find someone earlier, but somehow Cheshire came to the wrong place."

Bat sneered. "So you don't know. Just like I don't know. Don't speak to me like you're so much better than I am." He should just devour him right now and get it over with. If he didn't have any answers than he wasn't worth the time.

But if the demon put up a fight it might cause a scene. He didn't know where in this place the Embryon were, and if it was somewhere nearby... "I have better things to be doing with my time," he growled before turning to hop off the roof.
