Who: Nara Shikamaru, Hatake Kakashi
Where: Espoir, Around wherever Neji was staying
Style: Third
Status: Closed
Shikamaru was taking his usual lazy pace towards where he had last heard that Neji stayed, and was mulling over the brief conversation that had just taken place. Physically, he was moving along, slowly but surely. Mentally, he was getting nowhere.
His only piece of evidence that they weren't in the afterlife had been promptly brushed aside by his Jounin superior. Not even acknowledged, more like ignored all together. He had to admit that solely hanging onto one piece of proof wasn't the smartest thing to do, but it was the most he had gotten out of his conversation with Ino. But to have it not even countered meant that Kakashi had already thought of it, and possibly would offer explanation later on. What actions Kakashi would take were beyond him, but he knew something for sure. Nonchalance wasn't the reaction he wanted.
What would it take to coax a small realization out of the original Team 7 leader? To shatter his idea that they were not in the after life was probably a difficult task, but it had to be done. Otherwise, he would only continue to spread this belief and almost completely eradicate the will of other Konoha ninja to wish to return. Or at least, that was the cause-and-effect situation that he was considering. And that was not what Shikamaru was looking for. He was convinced that they weren't in the afterlife, the only thing missing was the proof. There was something that he wasn't considering, and it was constantly eluding him. It bothered him to think that it was taking so long to find the answer he was looking for.
But considering that this was Kakashi, and he was rather sure that Kakashi wouldn't believe something if he hadn't thought it out carefully, it was bound to be something that would prove challenging indeed. How could he break logic that was as meticulously thought out as his own? If they really weren't in the afterlife, there was something that they were both missing. Seeing as Kakashi seemed rather resigned to the idea that they were all dead, it wasn't like Shikamaru could collaborate with him on ideas of how to prove his logic wrong. If he were to fix this, he would likely have to come up with ideas and solutions on his own.
Being wrapped up in his thoughts had caused Shikamaru to not realize that he had already made it to Neji's household. Glancing over at the cottage, he was reminded of the problem at hand. Neji had supposedly disappeared, and that would make one less person from Konoha. Glancing around, he could guess that Kakashi hadn't arrived yet. He sighed to himself and gave his attention to the sky and the clouds decorating it, deciding to clear his mind for the time being. Kakashi was infamous for being late, after all.
