Whatever Itachi was lying on was hard and smooth--sturdy and flat. The floor. Why was he on the floor?
Someone was touching him, his arm held up and soft fabric being wrapped around the wrist slowly, methodically. The hand that touched his bare arm was careful, cautious, like a tender caress of comfort. Long fingers slid along his arm with such gentleness, it was as if they were afraid to break it.
Why did that hand feel so familiar?
As his mind became more aware of his surroundings, he realized that he and the other person were the only ones in the room. With more of his memories returning--It wasn't Sasuke--he could recall how he came to be in this situation and the identity of the other individual was enough to surprise him.
Why was Kakashi being so gentle with him?
Dark eyes began to flutter open--curious, yet hesitant--and once they found nothing nothing of importance to be concerned with, they widened and took in the sight of the thatched roof of the small cottage Itachi remembered from before.
The hands slowed in their motions, but then resumed the wrapping of the soft, sturdy cloth around his wrist.
His eyes slid to the side, searching out the form he knew was there, out of reflex and confusion.
For once, silence was not something Itachi found comforting, as within it was this strange somber tension that he could not place, nor understand the reason for. It unsettled him, left him uneasy when otherwise he was completely numb--the frightening, powerful emotions of before having burned through him like the chakra that had scorched the pathways of his body, leaving him charred and empty. He wasn't sure what to do to get rid of the pressure he could feel in the room.
"Using a henge instead of more intricate genjutsu to keep me from noticing?" His voice was dry, scratchy, soft. It took some effort to speak. "I should have expected it from you, Kakashi."
Why was Kakashi tending to his self-inflicted wounds? It was not the normal procedure after interrogating--or torturing--a captive to then bandage their wounds yourself. As if the person was not a criminal or a traitor to your village.
