The transition from darkness to light was a jarring effect even in normal circumstances, but the unnaturally smooth transition from a bedroom in the middle of the night to a deserted street at the center of an unfamiliar village with the sun high in the sky was nothing less than surreal. Fortunately Jade Curtiss wasn't the type to let anything surprise him for very long.
Jade took his surroundings in while calmly considering options and theories. Despite how he had feigned senility a time or two, he had never suffered from memory problems before. This suggested that an outside force might removed some of his memories or prevented him from being aware of what had happened for at least twelve hours. If the culprit was an enemy, he would be dead. If it was a prank he would have been placed in far more "amusing" circumstances than at the center of a dirt road near some empty shops. The make of the buildings around him were completely unfamiliar, and there was nothing immediately nearby to suggest that he was in Malkuth, Kimlasca, or Daath.
The only reason Jade didn't suspect that someone had kidnapped him during his sleep was because he came into awareness standing upright. He was also dressed in his military uniform and holding onto a strange device that was most likely a fon machine of sorts. If someone had knocked him out, he would have awakened lying on the ground in his bedclothes and showing signs of disorientation. Despite how strange the circumstances were he was thinking quite clearly.
Then there was the second most likely theory. A lucid dream? Jade mused silently. A dream was a distinct possibility, given that he last remembered falling asleep. Lucid dreams did allow one to experience tactile sensations as clearly as if they were awake. He wasn't a stranger to such dreams, though they were usually never vivid unless they were of things he tried not to think about when awake...
Jade pushed his glasses upward with a finger. "My, my," he said to no one in particular, his voice almost like a sigh. Life certainly was never dull. If someone did bring me here I suppose they'll reveal their intentions soon enough.
