The sound of gunfire was unlike the tinkle of the wind chimes he'd passed two streets over, the sounds of which swept into his ears gracefully and without the painful ringing that accompanied the bullet. Not that he didn't ( Read more... )

Lelouch looked at the unfamiliar scenery, taking in the harsh details. The chill fall air raised the hair on his neck as he walked along. He thought he saw some movement from a scarecrow, but he shrugged it off as his imagination - obviously, inanimate objects couldn't move.

Noise, some soft and angry mumblings, caught his attention. The soft, angry sounds coming from an area out of view. A click resonated throughout the old industrial city - a sound familiar to Lelouch. Unmistakable. A gun.

He turned the corner and saw a small, trembling figure deftly fingering the pistol, "...Rolo? What are you doing?"

Rolo quickly peered over his shoulder at the sound of approaching footsteps, moving his finger into a stationary position so as not to accidentally fire the weapon when he was unprepared. When he heard the voice, saw the visage, his lips spread into a bright smile.

"Nii-san!"

Ignoring the wriggling protests of the crucified scarecrow, Rolo dismantled his weapon as he ran to meet Lelouch, his cheeks suddenly flushed with excitement and cold. Again he fought the urge to throw his arms around the taller Lamperouge, stopping just a few feet short. "Nii-san....Where have you been? I've been looking all over! I thought something bad...to you..." He shook his head furiously, hoping to clear those images away. "But you're here! And as long as nii-san is safe..."

A small smile graced the face of the Emperor as he saw Rolo moving towards him. He stretched his arm out and softly ruffled the hair of his younger brother, "I'm not sure what happened. I believe I must've woken up... I'd been taking care of business in Britannia and... Well, here I am again. But, it's comforting to see you once more."

He laughed a little, "I'm safe, don't worry. W-what are you doing...?"

Taking care of business? Did that mean Lelouch had...gone back? Mentally he warred with himself over this. It was good that his brother was able to..do whatever it was he said he'd done. But this was obviously cause for concern. Rolo wanted Lelouch to himself here in this place, the perfect setting for the future they were going to create with one another. If Lelouch were to become distracted, loosing sight of the promise between the two of them, he would undoubtedly be more inclined to break his promise...

Hiding his discomfort, Rolo smiled up at his brother and proudly showed him the disassembled gun. "I was just practicing. I found an entire storehouse full of weapons the other day. I wanted to show you so we could do inventory but...mm. Does nii-san want to try?"

Hibari watched, expressionless, from a distance, leaning up against one of the decrepit warehouses. So, Rolo had found a gun- and other things, from the look of it. That was, from a tactical standpoint, bad. Even if they had a temporary truce, the keyword there was temporary, and thus Hibari had just lost whatever incredibly slight edge against him that he'd had.

He continued to watch lazily, though it was pointless- the reconnaissance mission was a success, but only if you ignored its implications. There was no use in gathering more data. In any battle they happened to fight- and it killed him to admit this, even to himself -he would lose. Inevitably.

Rolo cocked the hammer again and continued to fire until the new clip had run out as well. He knew that the storage place previously discovered would provide for enough ammunition to last him several months in the city, but nonetheless resolved that this would be his last round. Halfway through his stock, Rolo took a step back and realigned his body, a frown creasing his brows and disrupting the calm look that had drifted over his face not moments before.

"Did you need something, Hibari-san?" he called without looking back. One. Two. Three. Four. The last bullet hit the scarecrow in one of its black, beady eyes, causing it to spasm. Still it was smiling, and obviously it couldn't feel any pain, so Rolo attributed the motion to its reflexes. It could be said, after all, that animate objects that were supposed to be inanimate had reflexes and the like, couldn't it?

Rolo's powers of observation, clearly, were uncanny- almost rivaling his own, perhaps. Hibari stared impassively as Rolo emptied the clip, not flinching at the loud noise. Guns. Now, there was a weapon Hibari truly loathed. You couldn't have a fight with guns. You didn't get the satisfaction of splintering bone, feeling the thump as your weapon connected with flesh...

"No. I was just taking a walk. Do you have issue with that?" Hibari wondered briefly why Rolo had decided to use a scarecrow for target practice. Did he get some sort of satisfaction from watching it squirm?

"No," was the simple answer. He disassembled his firearm and placed it on the crate next to a similar looking semi-automatic. The cool feel of the gun in his hands was almost as placating as the steel blade he kept in his pocket - a harsh, cold reminder of the reality he experienced in this world.

Raven had just been wandering around, trying to get a better feel of the place and learn what he could. He supposed it was an old habit.

But when he heard the gunshots, he almost jumped out of his boots. It was a sound he definitely was not accustomed to and something that didn't sound that, well, good.

So, while inwardly regretting this, he decided to investigate and made his way in the direction of the gunfire.

It actually hadn't been so far, and turned the corner just in time to see Rolo nail the scarecrow with his last shot. A quick glance told him he was an expert, and also caught a glimpse of the other weaponry that was nearby.

Raven knew this may be suicide, but..hell he already died once, almost died another time, and he's in a dream world. And he had to know. Better to know about the people than not.

"Nice shot," he said cheerfully, leaning against the wall. "Never seen that weapon before, but it seems pretty high-tech."

Eyes widening at the steady footfall, Rolo whirled around and fixed the gun so that his line of fire was the skin between his eyes. Instinct, he supposed, but also necessity. There was no telling who in this world was walking around with malevolent intentions, or where the next threat to Lelouch's safety - in regards to his own life, Rolo was lax at best and indifferent at worst - would pop up.

"Who are you?" he demanded in a steady drone, his face completely void of all feeling. He was used to this scenario, as most were used to standing in front of their sinks every morning while they brushed their teeth. For him, this pose, this situation, these circumstances...they were all to him familiar in that same way. He'd lost track of how many times he'd been through this before. Just as the ordinary loose track of how many times they've brushed their teeth by the time they're sixteen.

holy crap, I just realized that Raven would know what a gun is. notjustanoldman November 1 2008, 03:01:34 UTC
Raven held his hands up in surrender, a look of pure surprise on his face though his mind was working overtime ( ... )

Rolo quickly scanned the man's person for any buldges that might conceal weapons. Once he was sure that the man wasn't fitted with a holster of any kind, that anything he could possibly keep hidden beneath his clothes, obscured by the intricate folds of fabric, would be easily dealt with, he lowered the gun. His hand, however, remained still over the trigger, and he kept the muzzle pointed in Raven's direction at waist-height.

"You didn't answer my question," he said flatly. Again, there was no indication of fear, anger, or hostility in his voice. The tone he used was neutral. His mind, working wildly, focused on everything and nothing at once.
