Who: Medusa Gorgon and Death the Kid. Where: On the edge of the village and first district. Style: Most likely prose. (I tend to default to that.) Status: Closed.
It was going to prove to be an utter problem for both of them-even if such was not intended. Though she had sealed herself under Soul Protect soon after her arrival, it didn't mean she would be blind. Medusa could see as perfectly well as the next person.
The sound of commotion attracted her like cat would to catnip. She was hopeful that there would be something there for her to use. But this would not be. It took the snake witch a few moments to place what was going on, and inwardly cursed. The sight of someone frantically neatening up a display, despite not being part of it...Death the kid. She knew that mark, ever since he had joined the school and attempted to rearrange her medicine cabinet. She did not know him as well as some of the others, but enough. A possible threat, if there was a Weapon around. Dangerous even without one. He had knowledge.
Perhaps she could arrange for him to still his tongue. But the only way to do that, was to get his attention. Easy enough, when he was consumed with everything symmetrical. All the schemer had to do was go to the center of the display, and take a few items, ensuring that there was an odd number-making symmetry impossible.
A diabolical plan indeed. And it certainly catches his attention.
"Hey! What do you think you're doi..."
When he looked at the culprit, however, he could only pause. He couldn't see the woman's face due to the lowered hood, but there was something both strikingly familiar and different. He wasn't on guard quite yet, but there was something nagging at him. Mostly because of the heinous crime that had just been committed.
"If you are not going to pay for those, then I highly request you to put them back just as you found them," he finally said, keeping his tone even. Of course he would most likely fix them again anyway, but getting them back was the first part.
"Highly request? I haven't heard that phrase in a long time." She juggled the items in her hand, smiling under her hood. He still hadn't changed from the last time they had seen one another-and here she had been so hoping from his supposed capture that he'd changed for the better.
Or driven insane. That would have been nice too.
Without a word, she flipped her hood back, the smirk still painted on her face. No Thompson sisters around. The worse he would be able to do would be physical combat, and she could survive that.
Kid just froze when he saw the face behind the hood. It can't...!
If this had been any other time he may have thought it was one of this world's tricks. In fact, in some ways he kind of hoped it was.
But the shocked expression only lasted for half a millisecond before his eyes narrowed, body tensing. If it weren't for the fact they were in a very public place he would have pulled out his weapons-not as good as the Thompson sisters, no, but he had something at least.
"You," he said in a low voice as he continued to glare at Medusa. "I take it you just arrived." Since he had never seen her name on the contact list. She could hide her soul, but as far as he knew, there was no way for someone to hide from the contact list.
But that was the problem, wasn't it? They were in public, and could not do anything. At least, nothing that was unsubtle. That would only cause notice for both of them. And that was not what they wanted in the least. They worked better when their abilities were kept under wraps.
Otherwise, there would be too many uncomfortable questions that they would have to answer.
"I did." She answered, items still in her hands. Still uneven, still enough to make the little shinigami edgy. "Unexpected, but a welcome break. Have you been enjoying yourself here? It looks like you have."
Despite the situation, it was a bit difficult for Kid to not glance at the items and the uneven order in the display. Though he did manage to also say focused on the witch before him, it did make him more tense.
"I've managed," he simply replied.
What were the chances of him being able to snatch those items away from her...no, that's not the point.
"It looks like you've changed a bit since I've last seen you. Is that your natural hair color or did you decide to dye it to hide your old age?"
Now this was interesting. He didn't know, did he? She had the feeling that if there were people from other worlds, there were people from the different times as well. She fiddled with one of the items in her hand-like a pet owner teasing a dog with a treat. Just keep it out of reach, and he wouldn't pay attention to most of what she had to say.
"I felt like a change. That's all." An answer without truly answering the question. "It looks as if you've changed too. You've connected a Sanzu line, haven't you? Congratulations."
He knew a few things, and he knew about Crona being sighted in Moscow with Medusa most likely pulling the strings...but that was the extent of his knowledge. The last he had personally seen her was when she was still in that ridiculous little girl body at Arachnaphobia's lair. And then...damn book.
"If you mean another one, yes," he clarified. Two Sanzu lines connected. One more to go. But he still wasn't even sure if he could still connect them here-he never really tried and without his Weapons...he was sure Medusa could probably suspect that, but that didn't mean he had to voice it.
True enough. She did not know about his fall into madness, nor the fact that the book had done it. But she did know of Eruka being taken from her grasp, from the last raid. The idiots own fault. She had little to no use for her at the moment, especially out of reach.
"One, two, it all means the same right now." She drawled, amused. "Because we're here, and not there. What would you say to a treaty of neutrality, Kid? We are stuck here. There's no point in fighting until we get back. War has no meaning if there's no world to save."
"Neutrality? From you? I may be young, but I'm not that naive, witch. I'm sure you'll find something to slither yourself into and take advantage of the situation."
In some ways, that could be taken as a compliment for her, but Kid firmly believed that any sense of "truce" would just be in words. She may be able to stay "neutral" for a short time, but there's no way it would be a long lasting term. At least that was what he believed. In the back of his mind he was already considering the possibilities should Medusa ever learn about certain aspects of this dream world.
Possibilities that were both obvious and confidential. He knew the witch was smart and all she would need is some clue to start making some kind of plan.
"Maybe I would." She agreed, folding her arms. "But it was worth a try. It could even give you some piece of mind while you're here, away from your father, and most of those you love."
She tilted her head, a smile hovering over her lips. "Unless you've been able to use the dreams in order to communicate back home."
The witch doubted there would be such a simple way of connecting with their homeworld. But, it was an interesting idea. How else would they have gotten here, without some sort of connection to this place in the first? She was already forming vague ideas and clues in the back of her mind, even as she surveyed the shinigami before her.
At least he couldn't raid her whenever he pleased. Soul Protect still worked. It was a start.
There was little movement. She would be able to find out information about Somarium sooner or later-at least the information that was readily accessible. Still, that did not mean he had to be the one to divulge it. Let her do her own grunt work.
"A piece of mind with you around? Only if you were bound and rendered useless-or better yet, dead." Well, it was true. "As for whether or not we are able to communicate, you'll find that out for yourself, I'm sure."
There were others, she was sure, that had been here as long as him. Or longer. It depended on what she found out, and that meant she would have to make with the friendly. At least, she would for a time.
"But you know well enough that either wouldn't hold me for long." She told him, rather amused at his obvious desire of ridding of her, and loathing.
"And I'm sure that I will be able to find out." She twitched the hood back on, still smiling that self satisfied expression. "Thank you for all the information, Little Death. It's been most informative."
Unfortunately, was his silent response, but he shifted slightly when he saw her place the hood back on. She was right there. As stupid of a move it would be, he had a chance to try and take her down himself. A chance he knew very well would be suicide. But damn if he wasn't tempted. It took a lot of self-restraint to not try and grab her arm to prevent her from leaving, but he knew there would be no point.
But there was still something. Something he wanted to ask even if he already knew he wasn't going to get much of an answer.
