[It's supposed to be a good thing when your friends come back, isn't it?
[Ken isn't walking as fast as perhaps he could have been. Go figure that. You're supposed to be glad when your friends make it back to this... this ridiculous place and yet somehow he's feeling weirdly ambivalent about this and not just because Aya's come back to the Great Somarium Campout 1998 or whatever the Hell year they have here but he's going with 1998 because everything else is just too weird to contemplate. It's nothing you'd want a friend to get stuck with, still less the girl you're interested in, but...
[But that's not all of it. There's something up here and off about it, about the whole way that she was with him - the way she talked, the way she looked, even the way she'd been doing her hair... it had only been a video link, but there'd been something not quite how he'd expected about this, all of it, and it wasn't just that she'd gotten fed up of messing with the pigtails. So Ken's walking more slowly than he could be, telling himself that with the ground still not quite clear and a bunch of tents to pick his way through he's just gotta be more careful than he'd normally be.
[It's not that he needs the time, really. It's not that he has no idea what he's going to say, and is hoping that the extra time will have him think of something. It's not that he isn't sure what expression he should be wearing (and hoping for more time for that, likewise). No.
