[It's been a long time since Ciel went anywhere outside of the village of Espoir, except when forced out because of the flood. Why today is different, is hard to say. Perhaps it's restlessness, or perhaps he just wants to get away from the confines of his house. Normally, he welcomes the solitude, but...

Then he sees the spectacle outside, and pauses. A dog, huh? He's always liked dogs, but he hasn't had one in years now.

So he just... stops, watching, not even aware that he probably looks a little strange, just watching from a short distance away.]

[he won't be watching for long, because Marie has caught his scent and is turning toward him, tail wagging and giving a friendly bark.]

Hm...? Oh!

[and have a cheerful wave!]

[And, he seems a bit startled at that. Ciel, many things you are, but a clever spy is not one of them. Awkwardly, he raises a hand in what he hopes is a polite wave, and not just completely flustered-looking. ]

Good Afternoon. [and cue the British accent] Apologies, I didn't mean to stare. I haven't seen a dog in a while.

Would you like to meet her? ...Though I'm afraid she's not at her cleanest right now, ah haha...

[He looks wary of the dirty dog.] ...is she trained?

[and Tamaki slowly starts to walk away from her. she clearly wants to follow since it had been so long! but she's being a good girl and staying.]

So... She's not going to jump on me if I get closer. [KIND of a question, but not really.]

[He would be very unhappy if she did. I on the other hand... XD]

Mm... [There are these rare moments, where Ciel can, and does, act his real age. He steps closer, though he wrinkles his nose a little at just how unclean the dog is. It reminds him of the time his own dog used to roll in the flower beds, and mother would scold him...]

Marie, was it? [He hesitantly reaches out a gloved hand to pet her head. Yes, he's wearing gloves even in this warm weather.]

Yes. [Marie sniffs his hand curiously before wagging her tail and bumping her nose a little against his hand. more pets!]

Haha, I think she likes you!

[He seems... encouraged by this. The barest of smiles crosses his face. What the hell... Sebastian can wash the gloves later. Marie is getting some very affectionate petting.]

I used to have a dog. Not for a long time now, though.

[awww she likes that! maybe some licking of the hands but. ew gloves. doesn't taste very good...]

Really? Maybe you should try getting one here. I adopted Marie last year in Somarium, actually.

[He kneels down in front of Marie, paying the dog more attention than her owner. Scratches behind the ear? How's about that?]

I couldn't. [His voice is a lot more somber and serious than you'd expect out of a 13-year-old] I'd hate to think of being here for that long. And in the event that I return from where I came, I'd be abandoning it. I can't do that. Even if it's just a dog.

[oooh yes yes! she's definitely happy now. and if he's not careful she might try to lick his face.

also, that was not the answer Tamaki was expecting, so he's silent for a moment as he thinks about it.]

That...is true. [small smile.] Quite a wise decision for someone so young.

[Ciel doesn't respond, quite content just petting the dog. For a moment, he thinks about dropping his dog-hair coated gloves in Sebastian's room. Just for kicks.]

You said... a year ago? So you've been here that long? [that is a length of time he doesn't want to think about at all]
