The creatures were still following her, Jaina noticed. Not that she'd have expected differently. )
She didn't know if she had done the right thing back in there. Hell, Cornelia didn't think half of the time anyway, so what made this any different. Unless she was strategically forming a plan for battle, thinking things through held little or no interest for her. And, even then, she was much better at picking up her sword and bending others to her will. She touched the weapon resting in its holster on her hip bone as if it would give her strength.
Cornelia had heard his last comment. And although it had stung, she knew it was best for him... and for herself. She had warned him of her inability to connect with humans. People were so useless in her eyes... swayed so easily by corporal things and weak emotions. Well, she didn't need that. She didn't need some demoralizing man getting close to her or convincing her he was, and then turning around and doing the same thing to thirty other women. No, thank you! She thought, arms crossing over her chest as she headed into the direction of what she hoped would be the Government district.
She had to admit that she was shocked at how dark it was outside. Almost like the entire city had been cast into shadows. Her eyes moved skyward, scanning the distance for a floating castle. It could have just been that the ridiculous looking thing in the sky was hovering over the area she was currently in. But no, it was a ways off. Hmmmmm, she slinked down into the small jacket a little more, hoping to find some warmth there. The creeping sensation she'd felt in the tavern had returned, causing an involuntary shudder to glide up her spine until the hairs at the back of her neck stood out straight.
