Expedition Desert Ruins

May 28, 2011 10:58

Who: Anyone interested!
Where: Saburra Desert // Desert Ruins
Style: First only
Status: OPEN!

Just as detailed in the short text message that had been sent out only days ago, everyone who signed on to the group met at the black statue that lay just outside of Somarium's barriers. Everyone was given supplies and briefed on the expedition. There were also not alone. There were other unfamiliar persons coming along; other archeologists and researchers from the town.

The journey would be a short one, especially when everyone was given a teleportation card. No need to trek through the desert's searing heat. Just one simple swipe into their Dreamberries, and everyone was automatically taken to the entrance of the ruins. Those who wished to stay behind to fight off the monsters could. But those who wished to venture inside would find that the passageways were already lined with lit torches. Even so, everyone had their own just in case, as well as flashlights.

There were many paths, but Dr. Teri N. Ghim only went in one direction. Again, those who wished to branch away from the main group had many an opportunity to do so, despite frequent words of caution. Along the way, monsters would be encountered and defeated, until finally they reached what at first seemed like a dead end. It clearly looked like a normal wall. But Dr. Ghim only had to press a certain block and the wall moved just like those found in the movies.

Inside was another dark corridor. However, the torches that lined the walls lit up as soon as they stepped inside. And there, at the end of the corridor, they would find the mysterious room they had came to explore. what mysterious would they find? Would they find any answers, or just more questions?

Event Details: As mentioned in the Moon Cycle post, this post is just for the exploration of the secret area in the desert ruins. It will last two days: Saturday, May 28 through Sunday, May 29.

Please comment only under the following sub-threads (they are a linked to their respective component and there is another set of navigation at the bottom of this entry):
  • GENERAL CONVERSATION. These threads take can take place at any time throughout the excursion. It functions as your basic "mingle" thread. Threadhop, meet fellow explorers-whatever you like! Threads can be set before the actual expedition or during it, so please specify and be ready to be flexible. We only ask that if a thread starts to merge with any of the other sub-threads to move the thread into its appropriate. This is only to make page loading and scrolling a little easier for everyone. A bunch of medium-sized threads is easier to handle than a couple of very long ones.

  • MONSTER FIGHTING. Any threads involving fighting monsters go here! Like the "General Conversation" thread, these can take place at any time and can be either outside or inside the ruins. Just keep it within the vicinity of the ruins. All desert monsters are tough and large, but they can be defeated! Think of them as mid-level dungeon monsters with a few scattered boss level types. They range in size from huge desert sharks to large insect types (scorpions, spiders) to swarms of killer bats. You are more than welcome to make any creature that pops into your head, too! Make it fun and interesting.

The only thing to note is that while the ruins will have monsters, they're not "riddled" with them. Only the outside may prove a little harrowing and where most of the real action will take place. So general passage should be uneventful, but there will be some lurking around. There won't be huge mobs waiting for them in ambush.

  • SIDE EXPLORATION. This is for those who want to explore the ruins in general and basically head off on their own. The following will be found: walls etched with strange paintings and hieroglyphics and large cavernous rooms filled with strange statues and diagrams. Unfortunately, there's not much in terms of treasure. It can also be noted that it looks like the ruins have been explored before the group arrived, possibly before it even appeared. Some rooms may appear more barren than they should.

  • SECRET ROOM. The final destination! Here characters will be able to explore a large almost auditorium sized room. Pictures and video are allowed, so feel free to use them to help document the findings. It will be filled with the following: a floating castle mountain model, a giant mural in the back, lots of diagrams and scenes painted on the other walls, a broken platform of sorts, and another room filled with what looks like a giant map. For the complete details, please refer to THIS POST. There is so much stuff, it needed its own entry!

It's a lot information to take in, and most of it is imagery. If anything, the symbolism of it should seem obvious to most characters, so figuring out what it all could mean shouldn't be too difficult. However, there are still many riddles and mysteries surrounding it all, just waiting to be solved and looked at.
If the Sunday activities merge with this post, then there will be a "SUNDAY" thread and everything will just fall under it. We suspect most people will still be threading "SATURDAY" activities, and Sunday would just be a continuation as well as the journey back. However, if it looks like it would be better to have a fresh post, we'll be happy to make one!

Remember, characters return to Somarium that evening. They actually won't have much of a choice this time. The good Dr. Teri N. Ghim will be pushing them out and there will not be enough supplies to stay much longer anyway. However, characters will be able to return to this place at any time they desire.

And that should be it for now! Sorry for the long read, but needed to get all the details in so everyone knows what what they're getting into. If you have any further questions, feel free to comment here and we'll try to answer as best as we can. If things are confusing details wise, that's okay! It's not supposed to make much sense until a little later, so don't worry about making "correct" speculations. Speculate like crazy! Who knows, you may actually be right.
