Fay App Cont. kaitou_marina January 8 2010, 05:43:03 UTC
It used to be that he put up the appearance of being unassuming and unable to take things seriously. He smiled constantly because he knew it disarmed people and it kept them from worrying or wondering about him and thus from getting too close to him. He tended to keep people at arm's length no matter how friendly he seemed to be with them (i.e. he acted even more silly - or cold, depending on what part of the plotline you're in XD - around Kurogane because he knew it annoyed the man and hoped it would drive him away). This was because he honestly believed that he was a being that only hurt those close to him and did not deserve to live. He was formerly unaware of his own self-worth, or his worth to others, and didn’t take special care to make certain that he wasn't harmed (despite wishing not to die before he could bring his brother back to life). He wore his guilt like a second skin. It was his weak point, and those that could reach it could easily manipulate him (i.e. his agreeing to complete tasks for the Fei Wang in order to return his brother, whom he is led to believe died because of him, to life). And yet, despite not wanting to allow others to get close to him, a part of him still yearned to live together with people. His kindness made him grow to care far more than he ever wanted to. Even though he was told he was a curse and a disaster for most of his young life, he still wished to help the people who believed this about him and took the burden of their hate all onto himself. This kindness is the center of Fay’s character, and it is the reason for many of the tragedies surrounding him. Lord Ashura even says that the thing that will always hurt him the most is his kindness.

The journey has changed Fay for the better. He is much more open with his emotions and no longer hides them from his companions because he does not wish to burden them with false smiles. In fact, he smiles much more honestly and feels quite free to express feelings such as frustration with Kuro (good-naturedly punching him in the head a few times), sadness and, indeed, some lingering guilt at his previous actions (especially when faced with Fei Wang, who had manipulated him). He would no longer allow himself to be carelessly wounded or killed and hopefully not so easily manipulated (though I still feel this is a weak spot for him, and he could, if in the wrong mood, still be affected by such things if someone hit the right button). He has also become a truly good "mommy." Where initially he acted indulgent and let the children do as they liked, more recently he has engaged in some good-natured scolding and tenderly fierce support. His gratitude for Kurogane’s sacrifice is readily apparent and he has at least made peace with his brother’s death and his horrible past. He is not completely healed yet, but with his companions, as Lord Ashura said, he will be able to overcome what comes at him now.

[Abilities]
Fay was once one of the top wizards in the country that he served, and with good reason. His power level is incredibly high, and the more he uses his powers, the stronger he gets. Despite this, he can be rather sparing with them due to the people in his past who condemned him for having them. In a way, he's probably a little afraid of them. Most of his magic manifests in the form of defensive and offensive attacks carved from glowing runes and taking the form of energy and elemental strikes. He also has the ability to "soak" knowledge from written pages and has what seems to have particular skill with sensing and creating seals. He has also used magic in the form of sound to counteract magic-dampening fields, though he remarked it was not at all his usual style. Interestingly enough, he is completely unable to learn or perform any sort of healing or restorative magic whatsoever, though not through a lack of trying. His abilities in magic give him a keen sense for it in others, and he can easily identify other magic-users.
