//Epilogue//
“Sometimes people are beautiful. Not in looks. Not in what they say. Just in what they are.”
-- I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak
“We’re here.” Jun said, triumphantly.
Sho gazed in wonder at the new house. He couldn’t believe their luck in securing such a peaceful place out in the country, but leave it to someone like Aiba to convince an old lady to sell her house at half the price.
It had been only a few weeks since Sho had been released from the hospital. He was mostly healed after spending a month and a half there, and Jun had recovered within that time as well. Ohno was free to go after a couple weeks, and had immediately set sail on a fishing trip with Nino. They were due to come back soon, as Aiba had bought houses for all of them in the same small town, and Sho was sure Nino was eager to come back to solid ground, even if he probably wouldn’t admit it to Ohno.
“Isn’t it funny?” Jun said, suddenly, with a smirk.
“What?”
“That ten years ago, you saved me, and this time, I tried to save you.”
“Don’t forget you took two months to heal in my apartment, and I took almost two months to heal in the hospital.” Sho replied, grinning.
“We’re meant to be.” Jun said, dramatically.
Sho half-heartedly gave him a shove. “I’m still not quite sure why you’re still here with me, after everything I put you through.”
Jun was quiet a moment before responding. “I think that’s my line. You accepted me, just as I was. How could I ever leave you after that?”
“And you accepted me for who I am as well, crazy dad and all. I guess we really are meant to be.” The pair laughed for a moment, gratitude and affection underlying the laughter.
Jun had begun moving their items inside, so Sho picked up a box to help. They didn’t have much, so it was an easy move, but Jun tsked the minute he saw Sho holding the cargo. Sho sighed. “I’m out of the hospital, Jun, remember? I can carry a box.”
Jun simply frowned at him before quickly taking the box from him. Dejected at being treated like an invalid, Sho pouted, leaning against the outside wall of the house.
Jun paused next to Sho when he returned outside, and Sho could feel his eyes on him. When he looked up, Jun had the oddest expression. “What…?”
Jun was suddenly in very close proximity, his arm next to Sho’s head against the wall, his breath sending shivers down Sho’s spine. Eyes wide, Sho tried to understand what was going on.
“You know…when you pout…you’re irresistible.” Jun said in a husky voice, his fingers lightly outlining Sho’s full lips, his eyes bright. Sho could feel his face turning red, and it made Jun smile wider.
“Jun…” was all Sho managed to get out before Jun crashed his lips against his. Jun’s mouth was soft, moving against his own in a purposeful way, as one of Jun’s gentle hands moved to cup his face.
The sweetest spellbound feeling flowed from Sho’s heart as Jun kissed him for the first time, and hopefully, not the last. Sho kissed in return, hoping to convey all the feelings he had back to Jun.
“I love you.”
