It was 6:23 am on Christmas morning, and Jun was beginning to get irritated.

He had been up for a good 2 hours now preparing for the one day a year it was actually fun to get out of bed. Amazingly, he didn’t need to set an alarm. He didn’t even bother to look back at the slumbering figure beside him as he jumped out of bed, as excited as a 5 year old.

He had done his morning routine. He had made some yummy breakfast treats. He had cleaned and made sure everything was where it needed to be. He had triple checked that Sho’s presents were ready, and had even tried to figure out what some of his own were.

But one important thing was missing, and currently it was snoring softly in Jun’s bedroom.

Jun had hoped that the smell of him cooking would’ve woken Sho up by now, but obviously that hadn’t worked. He had even waited patiently, knowing that Sho was typically an early riser by nature, thinking he would awaken on his own.

But no. The one day that Jun was happy to get up early happened to be the one day Sho wouldn’t get out of bed.

Grumpily, Jun trod back to his bedroom and began opening all the curtains to let in the early morning light. Sho stirred, laying on his stomach and burying his face into his arms, but did not awaken. Jun pursed his lips and tried to pull the sheets away from Sho, but it had no effect. He sat down on the bed hard, shaking Sho a little on the arm, even hitting him once with a pillow. Nothing.

Exasperated, Jun flung himself backward so that he lay flat on the bed. In doing so, however, Jun’s foot caught on a pile of Sho’s books, and they toppled over, making a huge racket. With an incoherent “What’s going on?,” Sho’s head bolted straight up, his hair sticking up at odd angles in an endearingly ruffled way. His eyes squinted at the light, and his faced scrunched up adorably in that “is it morning?” kind of way. He stared a Jun for a minute, obviously still trying to register what was happening in his sleep muddled brain. He rubbed his face and then hair, disheveling it even further, before laying his head back down on his pillow. Jun thought for a moment how unfair it was for Sho to look so adorable in the morning (when he himself always looked so horrid) before bringing his mind back to the current situation. Jun allowed himself to quickly check his breath before crossing his arms in pretend anger.

“What’s going on, MatsuJun?” Sho yawned.

“Oh, I don’t know, Sho, it’s only Christmas morning.” Jun retorted, trying to glare at the older man, but failing. "Get up."

Sho made a whining noise into his pillow. "Don't wanna. Not yet." He peeked at Jun from his pillow, making a cute sad puppy face.

"Don't even, Sho. I've been up since forever waiting for you to get your lazy butt out of bed."

Sho buried his face once more, his hand reaching out, groping blindly and finding his target pulled Jun close, snuggling into him. “Mmm. I see.”

Curled into Sho, Jun’s irritation softened. “What's that supposed to mean? It’s only the greatest day of the year! Idiot.” He poked Sho in the cheek. “If you don’t get out of bed, you won’t get any of the amazing presents I bought you.”

“Maybe.” Sho’s arms curled around Jun’s waist, their warmth seeping into Jun. “But if I stay in bed, I get the best present of all, Ma-chan. You.” With that, Sho kissed Jun softly on the lips before nudging his nose under Jun’s chin, burying his face there with a sleepy, happy sigh. Jun rolled his eyes at Sho’s sappiness, but blushed all the same.

“Fine. I’ll give you 30 more minutes. But at 7’o clock, we’re going to go celebrate Christmas, Sho-chan.” Jun said after a moment, but it didn’t matter. Sho was already asleep once more. Looking down at him, Jun smiled at his sleeping child-like face -- innocent and worry free. Running his fingers through Sho’s hair affectionately, Jun whispered, “Merry Christmas, Sho,” with a kiss to his forehead. As Jun succumbed to sleep himself, he thought that it wasn't how early you got up on Christmas morning that mattered, but who you woke up next to -- and waking up to Sho was a Christmas present Jun didn't ever want to lose.
