Distracted, a Bronski and Bernstein fic

Feb 15, 2012 21:28

So I finally get around to posting this for the bronskibernstn community after saying I would Monday! Or Sunday, one of those days. I have loved Bronski and Bernstein for ages, and it's another fandom I have unwritten and unfinished ideas and fic for.

Summary: Bronski is not happy about Bernstein being distracted by his iPod.

“Take those damn things out of your ears when I am speaking to you!”

Bronski yanked none too gently on the earpiece in Bernstein’s left ear, which got him a wince and frown before Bernstein turned to look at Micklitz, taking the earpiece out of his right ear.

“See? You never listen! Now, I want you both to go and bring this one in for questioning.” Micklitz slid a photo to them across the desk. “And don’t mess this up!”

Bronski nodded before taking the photo and nudging Bernstein out the door, sighing when Bernstein put the earphones of his new iPod back in his ears. As they drove to the suspect's address Bronski found it a bit hard to keep his attention on the road because Bernstein kept moving his head to whatever song he was listening to.

Bronski parked down from the house and glanced at Bernstein, who didn’t even seem to notice they had stopped. He had been distracted since he had gotten that damn thing, and Bronski wasn’t happy about it. He got out of the car and shut the door a bit more forcefully than usual, which must have got Bernstein’s attention because he hurriedly got out of the car. Bronski walked up to the door and knocked, glad to see Bernstein put the iPod away in his shirt pocket.

“Yes?” the man who answered the door asked.

“Mr. Golloh?” Bronski asked, and when the man nodded he pulled out his badge. “Bronski, and this is Bernstein.” He motioned to Bernstein, who smiled. “We need to take you to the station for questioning.” The man didn’t seem phased.

“Okay, just let me get my jacket.”

The man disappeared into a room and Bernstein took the iPod out again, not noticing the look of annoyance on Bronski’s face. Looking through the doorway again, Bronski stepped back, tugging a confused Bernstein by his jacket over the gate, not bothering to open it. They kept moving until they were crouched on the other side of the car. Looking over, Bernstein saw the man aim at him and was pulled to the pavement by Bronski as the man fired before sprinting down the street.

“Shit, Micklitz? He just went running down the street, and he has a gun. Okay.” Pressing the disconnect button Bronski slipped into the car. Pulling out and doing a wild turn, they sped down the street trying to find the man, with strict instructions to follow him, but not to do anything else.

Bronski relaxed as they walked into the diner and chose a table. It had been a long day, what with the man shooting at them and all, but backup had taken care of him, and Micklitz hadn’t yelled at them either, saying that it was not their fault the man had used a gun and run; they hadn’t been able to do anything.

When their orders were brought, Bronski frowned as Bernstein turned his iPod on again. He wished that Bernstein had never bought that music machine. All it did was distract him, and you couldn’t afford to be distracted in their line of work. He was lost in his thoughts when Bernstein asked a question.

“Sorry?”

“What are you frowning about?”

“Nothing, just thinking.” He smiled and Bernstein smiled back before pushing a button on the machine that Bronski wished he could chuck out a window. He started absently eating and grinned as a plan formed. He knew how he could get Bernstein to stop listening to the iPod.

Bronski pushed him against the wall and started kissing him once Bernstein closed the apartment door, pleased when Bernstein’s eyes fluttered closed. Touching his tongue to lips, grinning when they opened eagerly, he grazed tongue against teeth, delighting in the moan. Smiling, Bronski took the earphones out of Bernstein’s ears and threw the iPod onto the floor, glad that now he was the one distracting Bernstein.
