I guess this is what ljers usually do; write about minutiae and such

Today I bumped into an old acquaintance at a restaurant. I've known her since high school. She graduated from high school a year before me and graduated from Tech sometime around the time I transferred from Tech to UNM. Because of this, people who knew us both in high school always compared us and joked around that I was following in her footsteps.

She made the honor roll at Tech many times, was the SA Vice President for a while, while I did sort of a barely above average job at Tech (I used to wreck grading curves freshman and sophomore year, though). I was uninvolved extracurricularly, except when it came to physics club, which I was barely involved with. The comparisons finally stopped when I transferred.

When we bumped into each other today, she was with her parents and I was with my dad and my little brothers. She asked me what I thought was an innocent question, "Did you finally graduate?" I answered truthfully, then we had some awkwardness, then we departed.

My little brother pointed out that it was extremely rude of her to ask that. My mom has a habit of doing that sort of disguised diss (the disguised diss is a major feature of Mexican humor) and I suppose that's why he noticed it.

Probably nothing intended by it. She knows how hard things at Tech are and how majoring in Physics compounds on that. She was never socially adept either, so it's not like disguised disses are in her arsenal.

Or maybe I have an innocent mind and I don't like to pounce on rage inducing situations. Who knows.

minutiae, introspection
