so, my family thought that the ME couldn't connect to the new internet. Turns out that it's internet explorer (retard). For some reason it expects a phone line connection or a proxy. Bah! My family was using IE to find out whether or not the connection was made.
Well, I spied the antivirus complaining that it wanted a program update, and there were two for me to grab. I let it try to download updates and it did so. Hmmmmmmmmm....
So I used my broken Ubuntu install disk to install firefox on dat bitch.
Hehehe... IE can't connect to the internet. Oh well... blessing in disguise, I suppose.
