Yes, a fox sold for $204,750 at a local auction a few weeks back, and set a record.
The fox in question was a glass hood ornament made in the 1920s by Lalique. It was originally part of a group lot of fox figurines estimated to sell for between $100 and $150.
No, I did not attend, but I had actually noticed the auction and considered attending. Unfortunately, however, I had not noticed the fox. Not that it would have made much of a difference. No way I could have gotten him as a Christmas gift for Lupine! :P
Interesting story where it came from, too. Part of the John DuPont estate--descendant from the famous wealthy family. He collected lots of decorative foxes. Died in 2010 having spent around 13 years in prison for shooting, and killing, former gold medal olympic wrestler Dave Shultz on his "Foxcatcher Farm" estate, where I guess most of these foxes came from.
