If only this had been written twelve years ago.
On a side note, some of the comments take pot-shots at the soldiers who signed up, as though we were dumb. Tell me - in which neighborhood are most of the recruiting stations located? Who is the most vulnerable group of people likely to get sucked in to lies/promises by fancy miltary recruiters? Who needs money more than freedom?
That's right, the poor. I know all of three people who joined the military out of patriotic duty, compared to the hundrreds of drafted Vietnam vets and even more poor folks trying to send money back to their families. Or, in my sister's case, her husband went to Iraq so that there would be medical coverage for when their child was born.
I don't think the poor are necessarily stupid. Undereducated, yeah. Different culture from the ruling class, yeah. But I haven't found vary many people who were actually stupid in all ways.
