Question: Is Commander Pike better off in this new alternate-universe trek?
Answer: BEEP
Sorry to those who missed it, it's a very nerdy joke.
I'd previously been directed to read a description that described this movie as the classic conflict between the "twinks" and the "bears", with the Federation being the twinks and the Romulans being the bears. Alas, that is not accurate. The Federation are just the clean-cut pretty boys, with the Romulans being the scruffy pretty-boys.
I was hoping that the movie might involve a wee bit of brain activity, but alas no. The less the better. Best not to think about how the Enterprise escaped the black hole and got back home after ejecting the warp cores, which would mean it couldn't travel faster than light speed.
However, to the movie's credit: they did *not* blow up the enterprise. In most of the movies, another enterprise bit the dust, but this time it made it.
Scotty seems strangely skinny.
And I could not stop, even for one second, expecting Sylar-I-mean-Spock to cut open someone's head or put on his Sylar grin. Just couldn't.
