Gimme a Head of Books

I feel myself in a weird place at the moment. I still think it might be because I can't find something to listen to except irish music (yes, this includes the soundtracks for titanic and Riverdance, and a fantastic compilation of popular musicians like Kate Bush and Elvis Costello singing irish tunes (look up Common Ground). It might also be because of the stress at work that I'm letting get to me. It also might still be the fact that another summer has gone and I feel incomplete. Or it also might be the start of another busy school year coming around the bend and still no idea what I want to do for a living.

So I've set down the video games for now (well, partly - I sometimes love to endulge in GTA 4), I've put my TV shows and movies up (except of course for my MST3K, which still gets me going), and I'm branching out to literature. I finally finished the Silmarillion, so I can now move on to other things - and so I went to Barnes and Noble today with a gift certificate! And I bought:

The Tao of Pooh  by Benjamin Hoff
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle (which I've read, I just want it for my collection)

And with my birthday money from the family up north, I attacked Amazon.com for a whopping 66 dollar purchase of several books I am interested in reading throughout this semester, thanks to suggestions from co-worker Chad and others:

Damien by Herman Hess
The Life of Pi by Yann Martel
King Solomon's Ring by Konrad Z. Lorenz
Dubliners by James Joyce
Ulysseys by James Joyce
The Necklace and Other Short Stories by Guy de Maupassant
Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut
Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Travels with Charlay by John Steinbeck
The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell

Did I really just by 12 books today..? It's a plateful, yes. But nevertheless, I'm compelled to read, which is a delightful feeling indeed. I'm partly through The Tao of Pooh and that has been thus enjoyable so far. And after that I hope to finish Don Quixote by Cervantes, Kafka's The Trial and The Castle, and C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia.

Oh wait, did I actually finish something on my summer to do list? Let's cross it off this pathetic dream of a list!
