"Shut the fuck up and leave me alone"

This sentence has polluted my thoughts all weekend. I would not have thought it possible for eight words to stir up such an interesting and varying array of emotions. The person who delivered this message did not put nearly as much thought into its delivery as I have into its reception. Statements born in anger are almost never accompanied by logic. So while this person has the option of coming back and saying, "I'm sorry. I was mad. I didn't mean it", I say that's absolute bollocks. I say that moments where our words fly out before we can screen and filter them are moments of 100% honesty.

On a side note, the chance I will hear such an apology is about as realistic as believing you can have a progressive argument with a hardcore liberal. Or a hardcore anybody for that matter. In fact, if I ever heard the words 'I'm sorry' come out of this person's mouth I'd probably fall over and die from shock.

Let's start with what this sentence actually means since it's not what it implies. I should mention this was a text message delivered to my cell phone. A tedious form of communication and one I try to avoid. It's a laborous process where you have to type with your thumbs and you pay for each letter you compose with. This leads to the most ridiculous form of slang since internet abbreviations like LOL or BRB. A common message may look like this: "R U bizE?" or "im free b4 9". Basically, you want to get your point across with the minimum amount of actual English. So it's interesting that this person was so angry with me that it was not enough for me to simply Shut Up. I had to Shut THE FUCK up. An extra two words. Extra effort on the keypad and more money. It was that important.

More interesting is the second part of the message. LEAVE ME ALONE. A strange command because it's not at all what this person wants me to do. They are not wishing for solitude. They are wishing for everything to go in the same way it always has, minus me. A more accurate message would have been "Leave me without you". An extra two words. That would have meant extra effort on the keypad and more money. Apparently, THE FUCK was of more importance than WITHOUT YOU. I personally would have gone with clarifying the second statement since that would have made the message much more hurtful (which it was most certainly intended to be).

Eight words. That's all it took for me to radically switch how I felt about someone. My respect depleted like a tired cell phone battery. You can't respect someone who shows none for you. Why oh why would any of us waste time on a person that would speak to us that way? Because we're used to hearing so much worse? Disrespect in any form is still disrespect. Who gives a shit about its varying degrees?

Most people are not meant to reside in the positions we assign them to.

So here's a message for that person. You have been a beautiful cancer. Some get addicted to drugs or alcohol or habits. I have been addicted to you. There is no rehab for that. There's only one way to stop and that's cold turkey. So let me spell it out for you in half the words you used to so dutifully explain your animosity towards me:

Leave me without you.

Readers of this journal, you are more than you will admit to yourselves. And the only reason is that we look for gratification in all the wrong places. It is not in the eyes of a beautiful stranger. It is not in the opinion of your professor, your boss, or even your friends. It is not in the things you do or the things you have done.

Cats yawn because they realize there is nothing to do.

None if it matters. You are who you are. They will never take that away from you. That's enough.
