Room 313, Saturday afternoon

Apr 11, 2009 18:14

While John was taking Jonathyn for a walk, Jaina brought the twins back to her room to get her comlink... and check her messages. Which was why she even told them, "Don't tell your dad about this," as she ushered them into the room.

"I remember this room," Jaryd said, having been here last year. "It got boringer."

Jordin climbed up onto Jaina's bed, bouncing a little as if testing it. "Why don't you live with Daddy?" she wondered.

"Uh. Because," Jaina replied, trying to focus on the long arduous task of picking up her comlink.

"Because why?"

The first answer to come to mind was Because we're not married, as that sounded like a suitable line for a parent to throw out to their kids, but that was just weird after yesterday. So she copped out with, "The school won't let us."

"Oh," said Jordin knowingly. "The Man got you, huh."

It was a relief when the call came through. "Stay right there, I have to take this," said Jaina. Who for some stupid reason, turned on the holo settings so that she could once again tell a commanding officer that there was a situation here, and she'd be slow to reply to messages.

Unfortunately for her, it was her father on the other end. "Happy birthday, sweetheart."

"Seriously? It falls the same weekend two years in a row?" Jaina asked. From now on, she was keeping actual track of when her birthdays should fall. Stupid time wonkiness. Stupid not having checked her messages to find the one from Jacen pointing out that it would be today.

Not that he could probably hear her, since as soon as the twins heard his voice, they were running to stand next to Jaina so Han could see them, bouncing excitedly.

"Grandpa Han!"

"We had mousehead pancakes!"

"Jaryd smells!"

"Jordin smells worse!"

"Why does Mommy look like her head hurts?"

And poor Han was left looking offscreen. "Uh, Leia?"

Which just made things worse, because then Leia was standing next to him, looking just as stunned. Though at least she managed a "Is there anything you'd like to tell us, Jaina?" amid the happy cries of "Grandma!"

Jaina sighed, finally dropping her hand from her forehead. "It's Fandom. That should explain everything right there. ...Can I call you back?"

"But we wanna talk!" Jordin protested.

"Yeah, you never let us talk on the comm," Jaryd totally lied.

"I kind of want to hear this," Han admitted, looking somewhere between amused, horrified, and thinking he had an oddly-haired boy to kill.

And thusly, Jaina had to sigh and let her kids tell her parents everything on their six-year-old minds at the moment, really really hoping she could gloss over this later.

Ha.
