Obroa-skai, Monday Fandom time

It almost worked. Almost. And maybe it did. Jaina had formulated the plan herself, put it together, the Hapan fleet had showed at the exact right time to blow the Vong flagship, thus killing the Yuuzhan Vong Supreme Overlord Shimrra which could have possibly threw a huge blow to the war... except they weren't sure Shimrra had been aboard the damn thing.

This would be why when Jaina got to the bridge of Mon Adapyne, she greeted General Farlander with "Can you tell me what's going on here?"

He looked up at her, in the middle of something, and said, "Just a minute, Jaina, this is important."

Jaina stared in disbelief, thinking this was kind of more important. She was a good little subordinate, though, and went to wait next to Madurrin, a female Anx Jedi who'd been working from here during the battle. "What happened?" she asked. "What's going on?"

"I don't know any more than you do," Madurrin told her. "It's all right. We did extremely well. We won. We took the offensive and won- for the first time."

Well, there was that. Jaina tried to calm herself and took that. "Thanks. But what about Shimrra?"

"You saved a lot of lives today. You saved us when you realized the Yuuzhan Vong were using a second yammosk. You saved Kartha's life, for one. He was the captain of the Pulsar."

None of that answered the question, but Jaina picked up on one word of that. "Was?"

"Pulsar's completely disabled. We'll have to scuttle her. The general's making arrangements for bringing off the crew and getting medical attention to the wounded," Madurrin said.

She didn't want to think about the wounded right now. It was another one of those things she could put aside for the moment. It was a victory. Her squadron, half full of rookies, had made it through unscathed. She'd take it.

While Farlander was talking things over with Kartha, others began making their way onto the bridge, probably to get the same answer Jaina had demanded. The last to arrive was Queen Mother Tenel Ka of Hapes, who looked much different than she had the last time Jaina'd seen her. Becoming queen and having to conform to certain standards, such as the fact that lizard skin armor was probably a no-no, would do that for you.

She got Farlander's attention, bowing to her. "Your Majesty, your fleet's arrival was well timed."

"The timing was yours," said Tenel Ka, and turned to Kartha. "And the casualties, too. We should return to the Hapes Cluster before our loyal subjects learn we're not, as we claimed, on a routine fleet exercise. But first, I'd like to know- was that Shimrra we killed or not?"

"I think I can guess how New Republic Intelligence made the mistake," said Farlander. "They know that Supreme Overlord Shimrra is moving from the Rim to his new capital of Coruscant. They received a report that a Yuuzhan Vong big shot commanding a fleet was due in the Obroa-skai system to consult the library. They put two and two together and came up with seventeen. Resistance units on the ground on Obroa-skai just confirmed that the enemy commander was someone named Supreme Commander Komm Karsh."

They'd almost done it. Jaina tried not to be too disappointed.

"Supreme Commander," said Tenel Ka thoughtfully. "A rank second only to warmaster. Still a notable victory."

"Yes, Majesty. I'm relieved as well. I put this operation together in the absence of any instructions from my superiors, and at the urging of one of my officers. Who- even if she is a goddess-is still rather junior."

Tenel Ka followed Farlander's gaze to Jaina, eyebrow raised. "Goddess?" She knew damn well that wasn't true.

"You can call me Great One," said Jaina casually. "Most people do."

"Does a mere mortal queen dare to hug a goddess?"

"You have our permission."

Despite all the fighting Jaina had done in trying to sever relationships in order to keep them away, she was glad that hadn't always worked. Tenel Ka was an example of that. Though if they'd parted on bad terms on Hapes, Jaina probably wouldn't have had the wind knocked out of her with a one-armed hug. That girl was strong.

Farlander cleared his throat to break them apart. "Majesty, Great One, I'd like to proceed with the conference if we may," he explained. "Komm Karsh may have called for reinforcements before his death, and I'd like to get out of this system while I'm ahead."

Jaina stayed through the briefing, learned the new plans from Farlander, realized the people in charge were just as clueless as she felt so much of the time, and finally left to return to her squadron, hiding the disappointment she felt in almost winning this.
