It is snowing heavily today. What the hell.
So busy lately. I've got 4 projects coming up due in May:
1. an experiment with a classmate in Evolutionary. We're extracting DNA from two different types of sunflowers (Texas and Iowa), duplicating this DNA by doing PCR, then using a RE and running them on a gel to see if it cuts or not. If it does, that means the plant has a mutation which changes when it flowers. I forget the details of whether this mutation is found in wild type or domestic sunflowers. Anyway, we do this, then make a poster and present it.
2. also in Evol, a research project that will become a paper and a research proposal. I'm doing mine on whether there is a genetic basis for homosexuality and why that might have been favored in the past considering it seems like it would lower individual fitness.
3. some group project thing in math. I don't know about the details yet.
4. a mini fieldwork project in Cultural anthro. I think I'm going to look at the way race is portrayed in media, scientific literature, etc and write about that. Sounds less boring than the alternatives, which include digging through garbage to see what sorts of things people throw away. Who cares?
Also, I still have no plans for the summer. I'm a bit hazy on the rest of my life as well.
