Washington, D.C.: ExxonMobil recently reported a quarterly $10.4 billion profit, up 86 percent from last year's second quarter, as it continues to capitalize on war in the Middle East, Hurricane Katrina, and high domestic gas prices. That breaks down to about $72,000 a minute in profits. (A company spokesman for ExxonMobil did add, however, that last year it pledged to spend almost $10 million on renewable energy, a sum that amounts to three-hundredths of one percent of their annual profit.)
